Today Called Consolidated Bank & Trust Company, It Holds The Distinction Of Being The 10th Largest Black American-Owned Bank, As Well As Well As Being The Nation's Oldest Continually-Operated, Non-White-Owned Bank.
Founded By And Operated By Maggie Lena Walker, St. Luke Bank Is The First Bank In America To Be Run By A Woman. Walker Also Owned A Printing Plant, Office Building And Other Businesses. She Also Edited A Newspaper. It's Said That Local People Enjoyed Seeing Maggie Walker Ride Around Town In Her Chauffeur-Driven Limosine, A Symbol Of Her Success As An Entrepreneur.Walker Died In 1964, At The Age Of 69. Her House, At 110A East Leigh Street In Richmomd, VA, Was Designated A National Landmark In 1973.
