My Morning "Mommy" Kiss

Before my nine-year-old daughter leaves the house for school, she makes sure I get my morning "mommy" kiss. I love that. She may have a difficult knot in her sneaker that she is desperate to unravel before the bus comes. She'll moan and groan until the knot is out. However, she refuses to leave our house without giving me a kiss.

My youngest child told me that she gets sad thinking about me being home alone while she and her sister are in school. (For the record, I enjoy that. It's my time to write.) She also informed me that she misses me when she is at school. Her kisses, she says, are her way of letting me know how much I am loved and missed. I was touched by her thoughts.

As a mommy, I love my morning kiss from her. Now that her sister is a teenager, she has a "thing" about showing affection in public. Occassionally, she'll remember to give me a kiss in the morning, but I don't count on it. I do demand that she lets me know when she's leaving the house and that I see what outfit she's wearing to school.

When my youngest child has plenty of time to catch her bus; I get not only a kiss, but a big hug. Then she'll ask for another kiss. I freely give it. It's one of the mommy perks, I enjoy.
