I don't like being a "responsible" adult at times. I know too many people are familar with the phrase that I used to title my blog. The simple fact of the matter is that nobody told you being a magician would be part of your "adult" job description.
Depending on your financial situation and how often you are a paid (I'm paid once a month and I hate it) the basic bills like phone, electricity, cable, mortgage/rent, water, food, and heat keep coming in. In my case, I have to throw in a car payment clothing and hair care costs, (I had a stroke so now I have to take my daughters to a hairdresser to get their heads done and mine) and household repairs. They don't stop nor care when you get paid. The issuers expect you to pay them on their due dates. Unfortunately, your bills aren't always due when you get paid.
I live on a very tight budget; I'm on a fixed income. I don't live above my means. I usually pay for my purchases in cash. I have a savings account and a Christmas club. I buy in bulk. I use coupons and receive "free" sample products via the internet. My children have labelled me "cheap" like my mother. I take this as a compliment. Any extra money, we need I get from my extra income as a freelance writer, teaching artist or book author. I just can't always count on that income.
This month, I had to figure out how to pay two bills due at the same time. The problem: my disability check arrives next week and I only had money to pay one bill. I managed to figure out a way to pay both bills, but not without some tossing and turning.
I've learned not to stress over financial situations so much. I will now pick up the phone and let creditors know what's going on with me. When they learn about my recent disability, they are more than happy to work things out with me and are happy that I at least called them.
God doesn't give you more than you can handle. I just keep remembering that and smile.
