Mine is The Wizard Of Oz. Why? I have so many reasons. Dorothy. The Scarecrow. Landing in a new imaginary land. Meeting new people. Making new friends. That Green Wicked Witch. Those flying monkeys. Those red ruby slippers. Finding your strengths and gifts. Good wins out over evil.
That's what makes movies so magical. Children --young at heart-- love them. I know I do. As a film buff, the movie is shot so beautifully. The story line is great. The plot moves and now some forty years later, I still find something new every time I watch the film. My children are catching on. They are recognizing that some of the actors are in Kansas and The Land of Oz; they are catching some of the jokes.
A few months ago, I had to watch "The Wiz" with Michael Jackson and Diana Ross with my children. They didn't know that a black version of the film existed. They loved the musical numbers better and agreed that Dorothy (Diana Ross) was a bit too old. They liked it. I told them that I liked "The Wiz", but "The Wizard of Oz" is still my favorite movie.
What's your favorite movie? That's why I love watching it right before the holidays. It's my yearly date with the Scarecrow, Dorothy, The Tin Man, and the Lion. It feels like a comfortable pair of slippers. The storyline is universal. I still get excited seeing my oldest and dearest friends. Dorothy always reminds me: "There's no place like home."
