I'm not a golf fan. Nor am I a fan of Tiger Woods. I blame this on his mother. I'll tell you why.
When Tiger's star was on the rise, his mother made a very public statement about how black women weren't "good enough" for her son. She addressed her comment specifically to supermodel Tyra Banks. Tyra Banks not only is black, but she's beautiful and rich. I could see if they weren't compatible, but how could she say that Tyra's not good enough?
Then I'm thinking if black women weren't good enough for her son, why was Tiger's father suitable enough for her? Was that her way of having a better life in this country. In case, you aren't aware, Tiger's mother is of Asian descent and is no longer with Tiger's dad.
Tiger Woods never refers to himself as a "black" man. He developed a new phrase for his multi-ethnicity. Yet, he sent a text to one of the many women he's accused of having an affair with and asking her: "If she had ever been with a black man?" So much for being color blind.
I feel bad for his wife. I feel worse for his children and am happy that they are too young to really understand what is going on.
I'm annoyed that Tiger Woods thought he was "above" scandal because of his celebrity. That's the reason all the scandal is exploding because of his celebrity as a black golfer. Duuuh? He's won every major tournament and brought an unfounded interest to the game of golf.
I'm disappointed that Tiger couldn't man up to his wife about this after five years of marriage. Obviously, he didn't take his wedding vows seriously. If you're going to cheat; you might as well get divorced. If there are problems in your marriage, fix them. Talk to your spouse. And we're just getting started, people.
Woods has supposedly had a mistress for three years and he has slept with a variety of other women. He cancelled a tryst with one of his "women" because his wife was in labor with their child.
With everything that happened to Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan, you would think that Woods would have learned from example. He didn't. Tiger may lose some of his endorsements because of a morals clause. His image is tarnished. Tiger, was it worth it?
When you are black, famous, and out in the spotlight, you have to be cleaner than clean. What should have been a private matter between Tiger and his wife is now fodder for the media. Tiger's mom didn't teach him that.
I blame her partly for the mess that he's in now.
