Become a great leader in 4 steps (AMNY)
Tired of playing second fiddle? Make 2010 the year you become a
workplace leader. Executive coach Per Winblad, author of
"The Wisdom of
Leadership: Timeless Principles for Greater Purpose, Prospserity and
Peace of Mind," offered these four tips for becoming a wise leader:
1. Make a choice. The first step for being a wise and inspiring leader
with a decision to make a difference, Winblad said. The choice gives
you the courage to strive for something higher and better, and to be
determined to carry it through.
2. Create a balance. The next step is to create a balance in life among
work, family, friends and personal interest. If you only strive for
fame and fortune, it will never feel like enough.
3. Listen and learn. Wise leaders learn from what others say and ask
questions. There are two good reasons for listening: We can learn from
others and people open up to us if we learn.
4. Take time alone. Regularly set aside time for personal reflection.
Look back on how you've been leading and look forward to what kind of
leader you want to become. This will help you to see the bigger and
longer perspective of your life and leadership.
