A SPIRITED WOMAN
Nora Lam life's history is of a strong faith of being a Christian in a land of communism. Her remarkable faith allowed her to live after facing sure death of a firing squad.
When I was browsing around the book rack on Friday, March 19, 2010 I noticed a book of titled China's Cry The Nora Lam Story. Somehow, I had missed ever reading or ever hearing of such woman. When I picked it up I never put it back down until I brought it home and read it.
Nora Lam was born in Peking China by the name of Sung Neng Yee in 1932. She was a child of adoption. Later in life she was imprisoned in a room at a school she taught. Being that Nora had chosen Christianity she was subjected under the laws of Mao Tse-tung that all anyone caught serving under the new belief system would be tortured or killed. Faced with an abusive husband she left to live in Hong Kong. Still under close watch and constant persecutions she was arrested to face death for answering her interrogator that she was a Christian. What happen at that time was truly remarkable, she was put under orders to face a firing squad and be shot to death! According to her autobigraphy she lived through it, and was never harmed by not one bullet! An unexplained event saved her life called a miracle. Against all odds, Nora Lam ventured her way with her small children to America and did great work in missions and ministering on shortwave radios. She spoke at churches and stadiums where miracles never ceased in following her. Dedicating 30 years of her life she traveled all around the globe liberating thousands of women for missions, and aiding needy children. Her riviteous and true story was made into a movie which brought her international attention. Nora Lam died on February 2, 2004.
