The Queen's Chair: The Hunted (211 hits)

(Queen's Note: April is National Poetry Month. Mood Makers Books in Rochester, New York hosted its ninth annual Poetry On The Wall contest. I entered this poem and it not only was selected, but it won the Poem of Honor Award. The exhibit will be up until May 30, 2010. Thought I'd share this with you.)

Two years ago,
a silent stalker snuck into my bedroom with no warning.
Never saw a face, it attacked my left side as I slept.

It confiscated my soprano-singing voice,
my strength and balance,
but not my memory.

When I awoke; I had to fight back.
Every movement was a struggle.
Many new obstacles placed in front of me
My comeback took time.

My faith remained strong,
blessings flowed.
I reclaimed life's true wonders.
My attacker thought victory was theirs...
The attack took the best parts of me
or so I thought.

My husband left us,
but I stood tall
moved up and down stairs
as kids cheered me on.
A big thanks to whomever invented handrails

Shoulder pain, spasms, and tingling faded
now gone
My wildest dreams coming true

I didn't give up
though at times I wanted to
I'm still here and I won.

Thanks, Miisrael. See that is the funny part of this whole honor. I would never call myself a poet. I dabble in poetry and love writing my novels and blogs. This whole weekend, I think the man upstairs is trying to tell me something. I might have to seriously explore more of my poetic side...more often.
