What is the Purpose of Religion and Society? (972 hits)

What is the Purpose of Religion and Society?
- The purpose of religion and society is to wedge a wall between man and God, to cut him off from himself and cut him off from God. Religion aims at making a person spiritually ill. How do they do this? By turning individuals against themselves and souring their energies. -Frater RAH

The problem with fundamental-ism or any “extreme” belief system is that it allows people to focus on a few literal interpretations from this line or that of "the Bible", "Koran" etc, as a means to justify any act conceivable by man (wars, persecution, deception, terrorism, etc). It is easy to say "I'm a Christian, and since I say the words "Jesus is my saviour" that I can do whatever I want, I will be forgiven, and I will go to Heaven in the end, regardless of my actions.

If man wrote the bible; albeit as divinely inspired as he or she may have been, and man has re-written that bible countless times since it's inception, and since man is so prone to use anything in his power to better his interests, I'd say it's a pretty safe bet that if we take every single word of that bible 100% literally, then we are not following "The Word of God", but in fact, "The Word of Man".

I think in the end, the value of our life is based on what lessons we have learned, what kind of person we've been, how we've helped one another, and what good we've left behind for future generations. I believe there are many lessons to be learned from the Bible and the teachings of Jesus (as well as Mohammed, Buddha, a child’s innocence, or the wisdom of the old man next door). But I believe that the only way to truly learn the lessons from the bible, or anywhere else for that matter, one has to search for them in earnest. Ultimately, each person has to decide whether what they read, are told, or see, means to them. We each have an incredible device within us: our Soul. It's the part of us that ultimately knows what is right and what is not. It's the price we pay for that "knowledge" we inherited from the biblical "tree of life" in the garden of Eden. Our brain stores all the conscious knowledge: what we are taught, what we learn in school, what we learn from our experiences. But our soul is the machine that separates the wheat from the chaff, the fire that separates the pure from the un-pure.

The problem is that the guy who tempted Eve into eating that apple, is the same guy in charge of re-writing that bible, and influencing every other part of our lives (media, politics, business). It's his job to control us like a "flock of sheep", and without the shepherd "thinking for us" telling us what to do, what is right, what is wrong, and oh, by the way, give me 10% of all your money, that we are lost. That is definitely NOT what Jesus taught us. Jesus taught us to love thy neighbor as thyself, to do unto others as you would have others do unto you. He taught us forgiveness, tolerance, compassion. Jesus never said, "pay me and my church money, and you are in my club in Paradise”..... That's more like something the mafia requires.

I believe that 97% of the people in this world are currently like sheep, living the deception and not even knowing it. 1% of this world is "in on the game" and are thus the most wealthy and powerful (the illuminated). And 2% of the people can see what's really going on around them, at least partially (the enlightened). I do believe however, that all the sheep have souls, and that in the back of their subconscious, they suspect something is amiss.

It seems to me that the true purpose of our lives is to "wake up" from the dream, see the deception, and do everything we can to actually use our souls as our compass and guiding light to do what is right. The light is within us. Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed, and all enlightened teachers have told us this. If we truly listened to their message, we would not have wars. We would not need extreme fundamentalist religions to tell us what is right or wrong. We wouldn't need politicians and government to control us and "protect" us from ourselves and our fears.

Heaven can't be bought. It can only be earned.

Great article! Thanks for sharing Mr. Brown. Religion has always stifled me. It always seems to be inclusionary of its followers and exclusionary of non-followers, but you cannot deny the fact it is man-made. The sentiment of my religion, which I hold dear, is that every man’s path is different. What brings you closer to your God, or your higher self, may not be the same for me or the next man. We all have differing needs, there is no wrong or right, only wrong or right to you personally. We should all have the freedom to choose, and choose wholeheartedly, without the brainwashing and manipulation or having fear stricken within us. For some, religion is a matter of faith and to others a matter of logic.

Most believe the underlying premise or the basis of religion is all the same, but evolving in today’s society, in this era, I have to question that notion when it results in the death of so many innocent people. For example, when people sacrifice themselves in the name of the god they serve, and in doing so, kill innocent bystanders. I think this has driven me away from religion to a large degree, as well as several of my peers, friends, family members and close associates. I feel in response we’ve all adopted spirituality, still praying, and so forth, but we do not attend a church or even hold value in a specific religion.

For me, it is synonymous with the power of the universe, or the universal laws. For every action there is a reaction, for example. Thus being of moral character, which I’ve always believed religion to be about, (perhaps mistakenly), is significant. I believe the universe is in perfect balance however, and we all will suffer or reap awards according to how we've made others suffer or benefited another's life.

It is easy to say "I'm a Christian, and since I say the words "Jesus is my saviour" that I can do whatever I want, I will be forgiven, and I will go to Heaven in the end, regardless of my actions.

I just saw on the news, where a young Blackman cut off the head of his mother and then went to church to ask God for forgiveness before being arrested. What could have possessed him to do such a crime?
His family members said that he had been acting strange recently. Why would the voice in this head tell him to go to church afterwards?

Brother Earl,
I found a rare clip of the late Rev Clay Evans introducing the Honorable Minister Louis Farrkahan to speak at the church. Rev. Evans expressed the need for unity among Christians and Muslims, Christians of different denominations and Muslim Sects.

Do you think that religious people, who were persecuted in the past, begin to take on the personality of their persecutors and begin persecuting others?

[ it is unrealistic for me to say people who attend church are perfect,..]

Absolutely agree with this because the people in church are the same people from the community and society at large are they not?

Its best to be cordial in my opinion. If you can do something to help someone just do it and have no strings attached.

We don't have to be suspicious of people, but we do need to find out their agendas. Ha!

Please,

paganChristianity is the Mantra here.

Earl gives a great scholarship!

But Earl, please do not lump ALISLAAM into paganChristianity or buddha, or jewism, zionism, etc.

Muslims accept all the ORIGINAL BOOKS, all the ORIGINAL Prophets and have a completion The Creators' way from Adaam to Mohamed(as).

the post states, "The problem is that the guy who tempted Eve into eating that apple, is the same guy in charge of re-writing that bible"

American, Europeans, etc. want to EXCLAIM, "we are JudeoChristian people"-----the Books of Musa, Nuh, Ibraheem are well documented and Studied for a few Milleennium--

jews DO NOT BELIEVE paganChristianity!-

-they are the Judeo part of above

that Thought! should be important to africanAmericans of slave decent--1492-1864---judeoChristianity as told and practiced by paganEuropeans; gave them a lot of things for their decendants to remember; but no africanAmericans still say, in this Blog, "thats what the bible say!"

what a claim against scholarship!

a jew dont translate from His Hebrew Language the Torah(newTestament) like some luthern, baptist, pentacostal, jehovah witness, farrakhan.

jews know that paganEuropeans got hold of some ideas and translated them from greekPaganism, to romanPaganism, nordicPaganism etc. and came up with Slavery/Racialism/Colonialism(extremeMeONLYCapitalism), WWARS, and 5.98 Million Jews gassed. so they promised to behave and do paganBusiness against the People that they went West to avoid in 1492--Muslims.

Today the 2 Billion Muslims Worldwide say to the nonBeliever of the Torah, Injeel and AlQur'aan; The Creator says in SuratAlKafiruun--english Transliteration and English Meaning as best I am able--

In the Name of Allâah, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful
1. Say: Mohamed Õáì Çááå Úáíå æÓáã to these Mushrikûn and Kâfirûn): "O Al-Kafirûn (disbelievers in The Creator, in His Oneness, in His Angels, in His Books, in His Messengers, in the Day of Resurrection, and in Al-Qadar)!

2. "I DO NOT worship that which you worship,

3. "Nor will you worship that which I worship.

4. "And I shall not worship that which you are worshipping.

5. "Nor will you worship that which I worship.

6. "To you be your religion, and to me my religion, Monotheism."

As a N.D. Buddhist, we practice the same respect others as having the same ability to be the only experts on themselves and never use your God, Creator, ect. as justification not to treath others as you want to be treated...

the same things as being said by Maryanne and Clark, speaking for me as related to freedom of speech, of religion, of assembly, of thought,ect....in order to be the best person one can be in self respect / respecting others...

You are so right Clark, some would want to take the easy out and use desires for short term pleasure and desires of gold and material things to put themselves up and others down rather then doing the hard long term to reach our goals like a steady, secure long term job and a home not a year around vacation running games to get rich quick and broke a few months later.and, doing this over and over when maybe not in jail or running from aa creditor(smile)

And, no one had bettere sit in their special place in church on Sunday. I had an aunt like that...I could never understand why did she always have to sit in the front of the church with those giant hats on that no one could ever see over under or around them!!!!!!....Everyone in the family would be so embarrassed, but not her!!! LOL!!! Not my Aunt Mae...She was about 5' 9" and weighed about 250, but she looked great every sunday.

Boy!!!that one sure brought back a long lost memory (smile) I have been thinking about this since Clark mentioned on this post what his grandmother had said about the biggest sinners sitting right in church....SITTING WAY UP FRONT IN THE CHURCH.looooooooool (smile0

being human beings we have dreams and desires,. We must keep them under our controls and be able to over come any problems we face. each problem we master the next ones get that much easier to solve them....

Life is ever changing, moment to moment. The only constant is chang. One minute we can have all of the courage to conquor the whold world and the next moment, we can be overwhelmed by even the simplest occurrences...but, that's life!!!
