Philanthropist offers a Black Man 1 of 3 gifts right out of Prison: WHAT SHOULD HE CHOOSE (870 hits)

Hypothetical case of a Black Man wrongfully convicted of a crime. Out after 10 years, he walk out of prison to his neighborhood. A Philanthropist learns of his story and offers him 1 of 3 gifts to help. The Black Man must choose between a hooker for a couple of nights; A new car with clear title or 20 acres of land with clear deed. The brother figures that he hasn't had a woman for 10 years and perhaps getting laid, he can get his thoughts together. Or, with a car, he can get a job and get his self together. Or, some land with nothing on it..though fertile...he would have to do some real work.

Can you help the brother out...what should he choose? This scenario reflects the mentality of African Americans. Be honest with your answers and please give reason.

I would choose the land because it just makes more sense. Realestate you can never go wrong. He could lease it, sell acres to others, develop it, farm it, sell his crops, build a house, etc... The possiblilities are infinite with what the guy could do with it.

The obvious answer would be the land ... but only by a small margin. After spending 10 years in prison, the way things worked certainly would have changed drastically. Everyone is different, but if it were me, I'd choose the car. Mobility and accessibility are very valuable tools if you have the proper skills. Of course, this is hypothetical, but if not given more than just land one could have a long, arduous uphill journey before he sells that puppy [well, depending on where the land was]. With a car, one could land a job, which leads to the girl, which could lead to home together, which could be sold for another, etc. ...

But then too, I may just need to get my thoughts together first. [wink]

Sis. Jen, could not say much better. Though, I think you are more an exception to the rule.

Craig, you had me cracking up. I know what you mean...though to take the car....that is risky...what If the car breaks down or worse runs out of gas....Of course, you're sharp and no doubt could get it going from their but not everyone has your ambition and may find them stuck. But, like Jen said, with the land, you cannot go wrong. Though you may have to keep your pants on a little longer (smile)

As-Salaam Alaikum Brother Jamal:

As a woman who was raised in Islam and holds a minor in Accounting I would choose the land because it never depreciates (decreases in value)...it always appreciates (increases in value). CARS depreciate, every year. ROMANCE comes and goes. But, the land was there before we were born and will be there long after we're gone.

What a dumb analogy. Lol.

All of them offer limited choices. Land without tools, supplies and know how to grow food is meaningless. Also if you don't have income how can you pay taxes on such land as growing any product would take alot of time to reap any rewards.

A car wouldn't be any good if you can't afford gas, insurance and maintenance.

A hooker please. I don't even need to comment here.

It seems to me that this analogy suggests African Americans are lazy, don't want to advance or something stereotypical. It glosses over the years of terrorizing, slavery and Jim Crow that broke African Americans away from independance. As long as Racism/White Supremacy stands in the way of African American progress we will continue to see this relunctance to go free! Yes surely there are examples of groups like the Nation of Islam who have tried this experiment. Yet the Nation went under attack like all other groups of African American struggle. Now today they don't own none of the millions of dollars in farm land, grocery stores or other businesses they did back in the early 70's. This is all due to COINTELPRO, Police Assassignations, False Imprisonment and racist actions against them and all other African Americans social advancement groups. As soon as we can yoke off White Supremacy we will see African Americans follow in the foot steps of our great Ancestors whom built great empires. Marcus Garvey and Malcolm X was in agreement with me as should you be too!

Jamal seems as if you have a purpose for writing these selections. Hypotechically...I think he would choose to remain in jail! None of the selections I feel would actually help aid him in any productive living --Only if he could take up a choice in the confidence to do something with Divine guidence.

@ Bro, Jamal... Do you really think I'm the exception? (((blushing))) Ha!
@ Miisrael Ha! He would probably stay in jail
@ Bro. Clark so if according to Miisrael's answer (he will stay in Jail)then that would mean he a lazy man.

And now that I'm thinking about it, I suppose that's the reason people choose jail ... many of them won't be able to find legal work anyway because of their records. Sucks many of these ex-cons can't vote ever!

Why work hard when he could have his cake (downlow men) for free rather than paying a hooker. He probably has some type of underground smuggling connections of contraband both in and out of prison where he is making money anyway...

John, your comment is what I was looking for. You say suggestion was made that African Americans are lazy. According to the national science foundation study on US workforce by race: 41.7 percent of white male are working; 34.7 percent of white female are working; 10.3 percent of African Americans are working. I HAVE TO SUGGEST NOTHING...THE STATS SAY IT ALL.

Sure we both know of prejudice and discrimination in America. But if a person WANTS to work, there is work. He might have to leave one state for another, but there is work in America. During the institution of slavery, 100% of African Americans worked. WE WERE MADE TO WORK AND WERE BEATEN OR HUNG IF WE DID NOT. Point being, does African Americans need to be forced to work ? of the Americans listed in the US Army 774,381 are white while 228,731 are black. Imagine, blacks make roughly 1/3 of the enlisted servicepersons. In the army, a person is TOLD WHAT TO DO, WHEN TO DO OR COURTMARTIALED. Again, does African Americans need to be forced to work.

This blog is not about the Nation of Islam. It is about common sense in life. If a person was offered 20 acres of land free and clear, he could become a millionaire with a little bit of careful planning. Its not about religion, race, luck or culture. Its about ambition, belief in self and a little common sense.

Land with a clear title can be used for collateral at most any bank for a business loan. With the money could buy tools and build, grow, buy a car and get a job or an endless number of possibilities. With the business, could pay the loan back.....now you have the land and a business. This question could not even be posed to a white person or a Japanese....they would without question go for the land. There would be no debate. One really does not need much of an education, either, just good old common sense and a little ambition.

Jamal--Thanks for breaking down the analogy of your blog. I still tend to think he wouldn't do any of them, because if choices are presented like these everyday---still so many men are left in jail who lack ambitions and decide to stay lazy. Jails doesn't have to be a physical prison, many of men are in jails because they fail to seek and take opportunity to knowledge. If they must change which I feel they can---I feel the beginning would be within themselves to do something --and by a seeking of a higher power than himself.

--Wisdom does come from God. Ambition is practiced with God's guidance.

Miisrael....sure this is a hypothetical but the point of the blog is to drive the point of how African Americans view the importance of "land". Is there a question about it. Does African Americans realize the significance of owning land. And yes, this has everything to do with my divine mission of transitioning African Americans to land of their own in Africa. But, a leader should know what are the issues he faces with his people when it comes to land ownership and on a much broader scale nation ownership

first on this little analogy I am with john and clark!

one statistic not on list clark--

chances of 10 year prison vet getting a job and staying free?

So:
----as the economy of america has, for the last 3 years shown that owning land and defaulting on mortgages and paying taxes cannot be sustained by even an upper income family

----as a car may break down

----and finally as a 10 year veteran of American penal system--his sense of having a lady is not that desparate

and his ability of persuasion to talk himself into a line of work he received a Prision PhD. :

would allow him to convince; theLady--(a couple days?)---2-10?

that She is sitting on a Gold Mine that just needs to be mined and together with hardWork and with him as the businessManager and her as theCommodity---could buy a Cadillac and own a House out in the Country, in fall 2010-----

Clark, 62% of African Americans over 18 are not working...sounds like it is you that do not understand. The national science foundation makes it their business to make sense of the numbers. There study goes the age, education level, permanent employment and job retention, who accepts 401K, who retires, business owners and the like. Many companies will show African Americans who have retired or no longer working at the company for whatever reason still on their books. Statistics can be twisted to say anything. But I would believe National Science Foundation anyday over Bureau of Labor Statistics who would have you believe that unemployment among African Americans are at 18%. When in fact it is more like 30% depending on the state. The BLS would have you believe that the crisis among African Americans are not as bad as it is to avoid appearing as oppressive. Companies often will make it appear that they have more African Americans employed to avoid being penalized for discrimination and loose government contracts. But, the National Science Foundation uses scientist to look at who is really at the job, and who is collecting unemployment.

So, YES BLACK PEOPLE ARE BASICALLY LAZY IN AMERICA....BUT IT IS NOT A CHARACTERISTIC OF OUR RACE. It is just that when a people were made slaves then set free...people loose interest. I have worked at over 20 professional companies and very few African American were employed. Maybe 1 out of 300 white. Lazyness is a problem with our race but it can be corrected when Black people have something worth fighting for, worth working for, worth dying for.....but many African Americans won't even mow their own grass or pick up the trash out of not caring. White neighborhoods don't have trash everywhere like black neighborhoods.....so get off your naive kick....African Americans are LAZY AND IT IS UNDERSTANDABLE...THIS IS NOT OUR COUNTRY AND SO HAVE A FEELING THAT THEY DON'T CARE. But, given their own land...now that is a another story

Robert, as usual even the simple is difficult for you to decipher. But, at least, differant than Clark, you did answer the blog. All of these answers is proving how ignorant and dumb many of my people are. All of your answers are helpful though. The first thing in education development is to learn how to answer a question.

Would you not agree that "polygamy" is nothing more than a form of prostitution which you believe in?...... Just more of my 'BULL****'...

In the Holy Quran it limits the marriages to 4 so that is the most wives a man would be permitted to have. Putting controls and limits on natural things generally is a good thing. For instance too much calcium is no good but neither is not enough calcium. Prostitution is a business; pleasure for a price. In polygamy, separate families are raised contributing community growth.

Clark...everyone of my post is true or express a point like this hypothetical used to pull data for extracting the truth. Applied science happens to be based on the truth. Challenge is healthy as long as it does not lead one off the beaten path.....and each of my blogs represent a path. This blogs PROVES that not all African Americans are AWARE as to the importance of land. period

This is a unique idiosyncracy of our race

but criminals out of prison?

you, i might suggest, have not proven in this Blag that importance of land is the aim of prisoners?

Hello Jamal,

If every one of your posts is true and is backed up data and applied science then there would not be in need to delete Clark’s comments, am I right.

Clark has an advanced education as you do. Consequentially, Clark is not exactly stupid. Therefore, something seems to be psychologically wrong with you that you would opt to delete his comments. There are others on your blog that would have loved to read his comment before you had deleted it. Your actions are not of an intelligently rational man.

Jamal you have some serious mental challenges that you need to deal with, okay. Supposedly, this almighty God that you have reference could possibly help you. I do not really know.

What do you think?

Who ever said that Clark was stupid ? Only you did, Harry. The only one that needs help is you for your failure to draw on facts to make conclusions. It is my choice to delete whoever makes a comment that I feel is away from the point of the blog..and I suggest you stay on point before I delete your dumb self.
