The Violence Continues...
Do our children see guns as a sense of empowerment? Yes, there are workshops, and the Boys and Girls clubs, sports and scholarship programs as an alternative to street violence. But, why do young black men carry guns at ages twelve, fourteen and fifteen?
According to a survey I administered three years ago, carrying guns or other weapons actually esteems some of our young criminals. They feel less intimidated by peers who they once feared. They earn street respect, "if feels like a rush" one young man said. "Some of us, want to do better, be we don't know how", another young man said.
And, in all the reaponses in the survey about why they did street drugs and carried guns, not one person said they were afraid to kill, niether were they afraid to die - nor did they think they would ever be a victim of a street crime.
I read in a NewsOne article yesterday about a young man who shot a young woman because she refused to give her telephone number to him. After the party, he shot her.
Another story: A fifteen year old young man was shot twice in the head on the way to school in Chicago.
After a major rap concert, more than two hundred people stood outside while an idiot teen drove by and begin shooting at the crowd.
Crimes like these are a constant reminder that ignorant people don't have the right to kill for what they are too lazy to earn: respect, friendship and real labor/work.
When I wrote 'Laborer and The Street Hustler' , it helped me to understand the difference between the two men. Before then, I just did not understand.
What was the laborers inspiration to get an education, start a family, build a business and reach back into the community to those who needed the same inspiration? And, the street thug, what was his inspiration? Why choose the life of a drug dealer, rapist, murderer or thief?
Along with my religious and personal beliefs , I believe the laborer and the street hustler will always exist. Good and evil will always be present, which is one of the reasons why I'm going to write a stage play about the laborer and the street hustler. Why? I guess I'm just one of those people who believe that bringing the good to light will bring understanding to all.
When time allows, go to my website and listen to the track: Laborer And The Street Hustler - listen real good:

By the way, please press the share button to share my fan page. I love sharing my work, and hope to bring life long self-empowerment to my community and a new circle of friends who believe in my efforts. I appreciate your support.
