A LITERARY MOMENT WITH: "Miss Goody Two-Shoes" (228 hits)

I love literary works so I liked to share this one. Most of you have heard the phrase of "Miss Goody-Two Shoes" without ever connecting it's literary background. The term is as old as a book published in 1765 by the John Newbery. The noted publisher of children stories lived in London. The author of the original poem story or nursery rhyme still remains anonymous ; but men like Oliver Goldsmith, Charles and Newbery may have attributed to its publication. The phrase also appeared in a burseque poem written by Charles Cotton titled "A Voyage to Ireland as early as 1604.

Here's a short theme of the story of "Miss Goody Two-Shoes"
There's an morally impeccable story when Little Margery Meanwell's father is ruined by villians out pantomime named Graspall and Gripe. Margarey parents died leaving she and her brother alone in the world. Little Margarey through her poverty has only one shoe. However, help arrives when a rich relative takes them and gives Margery two shoes. So pleased to have two shoes every where she went she proclaimed to everybody.."Look I have two-shoes!" Later, the story tells how Little Margery became educated and wealthy from her poverish state of life.
Displaying she had a "goody-goody" attitude. Thus the term "Goody Two Shoes" formed along the years. There is a critical way many view this term as well --this being "someone who has the attitude that they never do anything wrong."

Gratifying and delightful I found that this literary reading opened up my imagination! Strangely true too, stories are told to help show us how to live. This one of "Miss Goody Two Shoes " reminded me that there is good in poverty as well as the good in learning and the appreciation of the rewards of riches are often gained from living poorly.

Thanks for sharing in this Literary Moment with me. I may write another.
"Looking at the blog's title it's possible you thought I was writing about myself."
