The Queen's Chair: The Dumbest Letter I Have Ever Gotten (231 hits)

The other day, I got a letter from my tween's school. The principal's letter startled me. Apparently some parents had sent their sick children to school with over-the-counter medications unknown to the school nurse and had their children administer the drug to themselves. As a result some of these children offered their medication to other students as if it was candy. Luckily, teachers saw this and took swift action.

My first thought: Why would you do this?

I don't mean to judge, but in a case like this, I have to. Why would you trust your own child to self mediate themselves? Just write a note for the teacher and s/he gives the medicine to the school nurse. It sounds so simple, yet it never happened. I just don't understand.

You would rather put my child in harm's way, just because you for whatever can't do the right thing is just plain wrong. To trust a young child to do a potential doctor's job, please. Do your job as a parent. That's why we are having some of the problems with our kids. Too many parents are trying to take shortcuts around being a parent.

Prescription or over-the-counter drugs aren't candy. They should be secured someplace safe in your home. Children shouldn't be taking any type of adult supervision. Babies shouldn't be making adult decisions. That's why you are the parent. God help us.

Marsha--

We can always count on you for good common sense.

The dumbest letter I ever got was a memo from the NYC Board of Education.

RE: Procedures for hand washing.

1. remove all rings and jewelry.
2. turn on water faucet.
3. test water to be sure it is luke warm and comfortable, not too hot or cold.
4. pick up soap.
5. work soap into a lather in your hands
6. message vigorously for three minutes.
7. rinse hands thoroughly.
8. dry with clean paper towel
9. Replace jewelry.

I did you not.

The NYC Bd of Ed actually PAID some staff member to come up with that memo!

I'd like to see somebody come up with something stupider!!!

@ Siebra: Common sense had died and risen more times than the phoenix.

@ Richard: I'm covering my mouth and LMAO in the library and people are staring at me. ...I wish I had that job. NOT!!! I think you have my letter beat.

Marsha, can you say protection of not having the school's liablity insurance raised?

Was child protection notified?!? this child's being put in that kind of danger has now spread to the school it self, because a drug over the counter is just a deadly as one prescribed by a doctor in the wrong hands and for the wrong reason...

This threat still will exist, will it not?
