HARD WORKING YOUNG BLACK MEN...Can they sweat it? (308 hits)

I hired two fine young Black males yesterday to do some back-breaking or at least sweaty work around my home. They seemed eager enough to mow, prune, and edge my lawn without hesitation. However, knowing it was a hot day, I found that they linguished after a few minutes of sweating. When they finally finished I noticed that I'd seen my lawn look better. They actually didn't follow all the instructions so I had to send them back out to complete some things they omitted. After this, I didn't drive them to do any more and paid them their asking price. Made me think though, many young men are just not accustomed to hard work. What ever the reason, I have seen this more often in today young Black males. Some are overweight, and some just don't understand the rewards of working hard, but only receiving the pay. I do though commend the two young men as to making an honest way to earn their funds, and I thought at least they aren't idle where they could be doing illegal things, or breaking the law. That young strong "Buck" of a Black man well I guess I didn't see it. "LOL!" I'm from "Old School" ruined perhaps in still looking for that strong hard working Black man. I guess young guys these days watch too much televison. I'll hire them again-- because I believe young Black men can take the sweat if they keep trying.

Sometimes all our young black men need is encouragement and someone to guide them in the right direction.

Here! Here! We need encouragers...These young men will possibly be great Fathers one day. They'll understand the gratitude in hard work. Thanks Sie.

Clark, that's the writer in me...I may be a little dramatic at times. Good advising..hopefully some of us can pass that on and instill those values where we go. I was trying to send a message to those two young men. I think they saw something in themselves and because of what I taught them about working, they'll come back soon and do an even better work with pride. It was a good thing.

@ Brother Clark,

Although I was thinking exactly what you were thinking, I was thinking that in the bed is the only way many Young Fine Black men don't mind putting up a sweat especially from listening to all the lyrics from their songs. Ha!

@ Miisrael,
Don't waste your money on people who won't do the work you pay them to do. Those young bucks need no sympathy, but a lesson in what paying for what you buy means. Shucks let them go into barbering if they don't won't to work outdoors.

Jen...you really think that their just loafers. I try to set an example by hiring them to do some work, but like I said I had to coach them into what to do. Still, they omitted some of the work and I had them go back over it before I paid them. I think they need a good lesson in hard work. They have it too easy sometimes. You proably might have a some truth to some of the young men. I'm being cautious.

How young are they Miisrael? I've had the same issue with young guys I've hired in my masonry business. In my experience it takes the guys until after their teen years at least to really be serious workers. The girls seem to develop this character earlier, like in everything else I guess. Oh, and I observed the same thing in some of my sons.

Steve-- They were 19 & 20. They were not what I considered "bad guys." Just needed a little lesson in hard work. Girls do tend to catch on faster sometimes, but I think was some good training for them. I really think I made an impact on them. At least, I tried too!
D...AH! Who knows they may never come back for me to hire them for anything ever again! They were bustin' out in sweats!!....LOL!

Yeah, my son knows I drive him hard too!...If he doesn't get right I call him out to do it until it's finished and done to my liking. ....He's says I too petty!
"Can you imagine that? "
