One possible silver lining of the Shirley Sherrod fiasco is that there may be an opportunity to have a frank discussion about race.

For more, we're joined by our Senior Racist Correspondent Wyatt Cenac...

Clark:

Right. It looks like those kinds of conversations just ain't gonna happen.

As Wyatt Cenac says--we ARE having that conversation on race. And it goes like this:

"You are a racist."

"No--YOU are a racist..."

And so it goes.

It would be nice to have a conversation, but it won't happen becasue people on both sides of the conversation get too overly emotional about the subject. This reminds me of the time I was working in a un-named hospital during the heated elections for US Presidency back in 2008.

The nurse mentioned that she had a dream that Barack was going to win the election and become the first African American president. Ok the _____ hit the fan!
One nurse went off saying he didn't believe that Sen Obama was a straight talker and that he talks out of both sides of his mouth. This nurse went on to say how poorly he'd been treated during his basic training in South Carolina and how people would stare at him and his (Black) wife when they were in public.

Then the nursing aide chimed in with her two cents worth and before you know it she told the male nurse that he'd made, "A White Racist comment." Needless to say that I looked on in amazement, because I couldn't believe all the dialogue that had transpired from the Native American nurse telling us about her dream. Ha!

I kindly excused myself from that hospital and have never been back since. It's a good thing that it was just a "gig' I'd picked up with the agency for extra money. What's the moral of this story? I don't know. My point exactly~~~ when we bring up race~~~ we lose touch with the moral of the story or what the message should be about.

Jen:

Exactly why the entire topic is something few people touch with a ten foot pole.

People on all colors are way too sensitive.

@ clark, I saw an interview with the head person on these farmers having won their cases and congress is still not paying them...and I took tis as a there is no way the Shirley Sharrod story will be allowed to die out no matter what...

from the White house, to NAACP to all of the news media out lets ahve got to give this sister what she wants to the tune if she says "jump" they must ask her "how high"...

this is just too uinique and there are just too many people willing to throw the ogther under the bus to get away from her when they see her coming...

AND, ONE THING ABOUT CIVIL RIGHTS WORKERS THERE IS NO SUCH TIMEA AS A TIME LIMIT FOR THEM TO GET THE JOB DONE...REMEMBER IT IS ALL BBOUT PROTECTING THE NEXT GENERATION SO THERE IS NO CLOCK THAT SAYS YOUR WORK DAY OR YEAR OR YEARS ARE OVER...GO HOME. LOL (SMILE)

Plus there was an article in my local paper today about a study of how and why so little news from the Black community is covered in the news any...(s-m-i-l-e)

Jen, this is why prejudice is defined as PRE JUDEGMENT...

RACISM IS DEFINED AS SUBJECTIVE...

AND THE PROBLEM Is THESE KINDS OF ARGUMENTS SHOULD NOT BE DEFINED AS DIALOGUES...dialogue allows all sides to be heard and heard with all due respect to others as you your ownself want and need...(smile)

EDUCATE!!!EDUCATE!!!EDUCATE!!!...YES WE CAN DO THIS...
