What is Your Philosophy of Life? (734 hits)

I need BIA's help... My first assignment for my Philosophy Class.... And I would like your input.....

I have compiled for quotes to give me some insight but... I want a more of your thoughts...

Life Philosophy
The meaning of life is to give life meaning

Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.
Life Philosophy of John Wooden

Even a fool knows you can't reach the stars,
but that doesn't stop a wiseman from trying.

"You can't make someone else's choices.
You shouldn't let someone else make yours."
Life Philosophy of Gen. Colin Powell

Man is not the creature of circumstances,
circumstances are the creatures of men.
We are free agents, and man is more powerful than matter.
Life Philosophy of Benjamin Disraeli

When an affliction happens to you, you either let it defeat you,
or you defeat it...
Life Philosophy of Rosalind Russell

A life lived in fear is a life half lived.

To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong.

"It is better to be hated for what you are
then to be loved for what your not"

There are always two choices. Two paths to take.
One is easy. And its only reward is that it's easy.

Positive thinking will let you do everything better than negative thinking will.
Life Philosophy of Zig Ziglar

You will never achieve what you never begin...

The measure of a man is the way he bears up under misfortune.

Don't wait for your ship to come in, swim out to it.

Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.
Philosophy of Life by Andre Gide

If one seeks advice, give them direction, not correction.

Sooner or later, those who win are those who think they can.
Philosophy of Life by Richard Bach

Do the things you know, and you shall learn the truth you need to know.
Philosophy of Life by George Macdonald

Let us not be content to wait and see what will happen,
but give us the determination to make the right things happen.
Philosophy of Life by Peter Marshall

It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation.

Don't take life too seriously. no one gets out alive, anyways.

Before you talk about what you want - appreciate what you have.

A man either lives life as it happens to him, meets it head-on and licks it,
or he turns his back on it and starts to wither away.
Life Philosophy from Gene Roddenberry

You see, in life, lots of people know what to do,
but few people actually do what they know.
Knowing is not enough! You must take action.
Life Philosophy from Anthony Robbins

If you believe you can, you probably can.
If you believe you won't, you most assuredly won't.
Belief is the ignition switch that gets you off the launching pad.
Life Philosophy from Denis Waitley

You can do what you think you can do and you cannot do what you think you cannot
Life Philosophy from Ben Stein

Find something you love to do
and you'll never have to work a day in your life.
Life Philosophy from Harvey Mackay

You can do what you want to do. You can be what you want to be.
Life Philosophy from R. David Thomas

I think these few verses from my "I SEE" poem says it best...

I SEE...

Life is precious and indeed purposeful,
although the trails and tribulations may be,
But it is also the measuring stick
that proves my purpose and my destiny.

I SEE...

I must continue to focus
on He the Almighty
then and only then can I embrace
what He has ordained in me.

And this is my favorite verse from the Quran:
"Call on your Lord with humility and in private: for God loveth not those who trespass beyond bounds. Do no mischief on the earth, after it hath been set in order, but call on Him with fear and longing (in your hearts): for the Mercy of God is (always) near to those who do good."

- Surah 7 Verses 55 - 56

This quote show that no matter what we go through in life, we can always ask Allah for forgiveness and that he is always near.

@All...
I really think Im gonna like this class... Im a deep emotional sista.... and this course is going to make me go... deep thinking about life, death, religion.... so I'll be posting on HUMANITIES and trying to get an indebt discussion with everyone on how we think and analyse different things in which we "live" but never really give much discussion to... Fantasia an her near suicide really had me thinking yall how we just live life in this protective bubble.... until common sitiuations in life just bursts our bubble... we collaspe then sit back an ask what's going on... some of us can identify and see the train wreck ahead ..... some of us crash... some make it out of the wreakage some don't...I wanna take special cautions to avoid the wreck ahead.... It takes wisdom and insight....

Hello to All,

Life is when you have the knowledge of how you came into existence, your present circumstances and where you want to be in the future.

Black Americans came into existence when the White slave masters bred themselves with the African slave people they purchased from the slave trader for human labor and pleasure.

Black America’s present circumstances are that we are a subjugated people in White America since we have the poorest health care, the most high school dropouts and the most incarcerated.

Black Americans knowing their past and present should desire to become a sovereign people on a portion of this continent that we could call our very own country with borders to worship God, to pursue life, liberty, happiness and prosperity in our own way.

Am I wrong to have this concept, insight and wisdom?

Tell me what you think.

Steve what do you mean it's own definition to life?

What I mean Cynthia (and Irma) is that the question is unknowable, unanswerable. Remember the verse, I AM THAT I AM, therefore say I AM hath sent me? The best we can do is to accept that we do not know. We simply ARE. Now that may not be what your teacher is asking. She may be asking how should we live our lives. That is a different question. But the underlying question, why is there anything instead of nothing, is never answerable. It is like those people who say, if God created us, who created God? It is an endless circle. The first step is acceptance of not knowing.

My answer life is a newborn child, is not a comprehensive answer. It does not negate the answer, life is a daily journey. There are many true things we can say ABOUT life, but we cannot say what IS life.

I use the example of the baby to show the ongoing cycle of life. On the question how to live life, we need to understand EGO. We are all afraid of death, but that is about EGO. EGO leads to many mistakes in the human condition, and at the same time to many triumphs in the human condition. The baby is not about EGO. The baby is a symbol of renewal. And life goes on. My opinion: if one wants to understand how to live life, one needs to understand EGO. One needs to take care of oneself to take care of the baby, but may also need to sacrifice oneself to take care of the baby.

This is why humans form societies. We contribute our EGO, that is essential. But we must let go our EGO, that is also essential.

The branch of Philosophy that deals with the question of being is known as Metaphysics.
Wednesday, August 25th 2010 at 9:54AM
Steve Williams
And Metaphysics is foundational to Ethics. It is not clear to me if your teacher is on the subject of Metaphysics or Ethics, with the term Philosophy of Life.

Off topic a little Cynthia, but I hope you enjoy this little mind teaser. It is known as Zeno's paradox, and was introduced to me early in my study of Philosophy. Mind that it has been addressed in modern times by Mathematics. Here is one description of it:

"Suppose a very fast runner — such as mythical Atalanta — needs to run for the bus. Clearly before she reaches the bus stop she must run half-way, as Aristotle says. There's no problem there; supposing a constant motion it will take her 1/2 the time to run half-way there and 1/2 the time to run the rest of the way. Now she must also run half-way to the half-way point — i.e., a 1/4 of the total distance — before she reaches the half-way point, but again she is left with a finite number of finite lengths to run, and plenty of time to do it. And before she reaches 1/4 of the way she must reach 1/2 of 1/4 = 1/8 of the way; and before that a 1/16; and so on. There is no problem at any finite point in this series, but what if the halving is carried out infinitely many times? The resulting series contains no first distance to run, for any possible first distance could be divided in half, and hence would not be first after all. However it does contain a final distance, namely 1/2 of the way; and a penultimate distance, 1/4 of the way; and a third to last distance, 1/8 of the way; and so on. Thus the series of distances that Atalanta is required to run is: …, then 1/16 of the way, then 1/8 of the way, then 1/4 of the way, and finally 1/2 of the way (of course we are not suggesting that she stops at the end of each segment and then starts running at the beginning of the next — we are thinking of her continuous run being composed of such parts). And now there is a problem, for this description of her run has her travelling an infinite number of finite distances, which, Zeno would have us conclude, must take an infinite time, which is to say it is never completed. And since the argument does not depend on the distance or who or what the mover is, it follows that no finite distance can ever be traveled, which is to say that all motion is impossible. (Note that the paradox could easily be generated in the other direction so that Atalanta must first run half way, then half the remaining way, then half of that and so on, so that she must run the following endless sequence of fractions of the total distance: 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 ….)"

Cynthia, always remember this about philosophy and it is something Ilearned from a philo. professor...Philosophyis written so no one will ever feel educated enough to fully be able to understand it. (sort of like lawyer speak...lol)...

but most of all in phil. they only want you to state your premise and support it that is all because there is not right or wrong in this science only being able to back up what your claims are..."I" do believe the worst thing one can do in this science is to find an ending or an absolute.."K" (smile)
