America, brace yourself: Hurricane Earl plans to hit you in the face !

With Hurricane season well under way, the first major storm of the season is scheduled to hit America by the end of week. Will meteorologist track the storm to hit the east coast, oil that has drifted from the Gulf coast further eastward will be effected.

Black Americans can prepare for the wrath of Allah(God) for America's killing of innocent muslims in Iraq and the middle east. The debt has to be paid for the hundreds of thousands of women, men and children killed in America's aggression against Iraq and the middle east.

Please make sense. Please!!!

Steve Williams Monday, August 30th 2010 at 10:57PM

And now God will kill the innocent Muslims in America???

Yes America has killed countless. God does not kill the righteous just because they are next to the unrighteous.

Get a grip!!!

Jamal
I could understand if you were expecting the wrath of God to defend you against personal enemies, but why are you so concerned about Iraq and the middle east. Have you ever seen them homeless or begging for money in your neighborhood.

jamal Abraham Tuesday, August 31st 2010 at 2:15AM

Helen....what do you throw at ignorance...is it love..they try to kill you....is it mentoring...the many get bored...is it hard love....they learn to resent you....what about death...black Americans will pay attention !

I was trying to make some sense out of your statement, you didn't answer the question. Just think what would you do if Pittsburg Pa. was being hit by a storm that tore it apart, is it the wrath of God?

jamal Abraham Tuesday, August 31st 2010 at 7:19AM

My point is that blacks in the neighborhoods are hard headed. And thus far, the wrath of God has always been around me but never where I am at.

Oh Lawd... Is it coming near me? Well.... I have class tonight and tomorrow night....

Steve Williams Tuesday, August 31st 2010 at 12:27PM

Are you near the coast Cynthia? Looks like you'll be okay. Northeast could likely experience some problems. In the Philly area when I was a kid, we got so much rain from a hurricane that one our trees was falling over and had to be cut down. Maybe Jamal will get the satisfaction of God's judgment falling on me in the form of a tree? Got lots of trees around here. He is safely about 300 miles from the coast.

America thinks she will escape the wrath of almighty God Allah. She will get hit and it will cost. It will efffect the rich, poor, young and old. If Allah(God) will send a devasting flood to Pakistan which is a muslim country...what do you think will happen to a christian country like America.

Steve Williams Tuesday, August 31st 2010 at 3:36PM

I guess ChristianGod and MuslimGod are duking it out.

jamal Abraham Wednesday, September 1st 2010 at 1:33AM

I think Harry may be right.......Steve may need to slow down a little bit and let black people think for themselves.

Steve Williams Wednesday, September 1st 2010 at 10:23AM

That's interesting Jamal, but I don't quite understand your rational. Do black people think differently than me? How is that?

I think Clark and I just agreed. Clark is (blank) and I am (blank)?

UPDATE 1-Hurricane Earl heads for US east, islands evacuated

Wed Sep 1, 2010 9:20am EDT

* Category 3 Earl threatens North Carolina's Outer Banks

* Vacationers, some residents evacuate low-lying islands

* Direct full hit to US shoreline is not forecast so far (Updates with latest evacuation order, Earl position, changes dateline, previous MIAMI)

By Gene Cherry

HATTERAS ISLAND, N.C., Sept 1 (Reuters) - Visitors and some residents evacuated from low-lying vacation islands off the North Carolina coast on Wednesday as Hurricane Earl bore down on the U.S. eastern seaboard, churning up dangerous swells.

Earl, still a major Category 3 hurricane, weakened slightly overnight but was on a track that could approach the North Carolina coast by Friday morning, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.

Packing top sustained winds of 125 mph (205 kph), Earl was churning over the open Atlantic. The hurricane was expected to sideswipe the densely populated coast from North Carolina to New England on a forecast northward offshore path during the upcoming U.S. Labor Day holiday weekend marking the end of the summer vacation season.

This was expected to bring driving rain, high winds and pounding surf, but forecasters so far have not predicted a direct hit on the U.S. East Coast.

North Carolina's Dare County ordered the mandatory evacuation of all visitors from Hatteras Island, a popular picturesque vacation spot that draws large numbers of tourists each year. Officials said high waves striking the island could wash over the coastal highway, impeding safe travel.

Vacationers and residents were also being evacuated from Ocracoke Island, also on North Carolina's Outer Banks that jut into the Atlantic Ocean.

At 8 a.m. EST (1200 GMT), Earl was moving across the Atlantic well to the east of the Bahamas and was located about 780 miles (1,255 km) south southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, the Miami-based National Hurricane Center said.

"Large swells from Earl should affect the Bahamas and the southeastern coast of the United States today (Wednesday). These swells will likely cause dangerous surf conditions and rip currents," the center said.

Hurricane Earl posed no threat to major U.S. oil and gas installations in the Gulf of Mexico.

Steve Williams Wednesday, September 1st 2010 at 10:44AM

Looks like God's judgment will be to mess up some American's Labor Day weekend. This is indeed a serious matter!

Correction to my above post to you Jamal: I meant to say "rationale", not "rational".

Hurricane Earl Nears Peak Power, Menaces Long Island

By Eric Holthaus

Hurricane Earl finished traversing the Gulf Stream Wednesday night, and he has emerged like a bodybuilder on steroids. The massive storm is now just 10 mph away from officially becoming the northernmost Category 5 hurricane in Atlantic basin history, and parts of the East Coast will begin feeling Earl’s arrival as soon as Thursday afternoon.

Only eight storms as strong as Hurricane Earl have passed within 100 miles of its present location since record keeping began in 1853, and seven went on to make landfall in the U.S. or Canada. The most recent was Hurricane Betsy’s New Orleans landfall in 1965.

At 3:10 a.m. Thursday, an Air Force Hurricane Hunter plane reported 159 mph sustained winds at flight level of 10,000 feet. Those readings would put Earl at Category 5 strength on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale, but the winds aren’t making it all the way to the surface — due in part to the dry air we mentioned Wednesday. (For the latest updates, see The Journal’s Storm Tracker.)

During the plane’s passes through Earl’s eyewall Thursday morning, the Air Force also reported “frequent severe turbulence.” Kudos to those brave pilots! (To get a sense of what they experienced, have a look at this account of severe turbulence caused by a mere thunderstorm on a recent commercial flight.)

The good news is that Earl has likely peaked in intensity. The not-so-good news is that the hurricane’s track continues to shift westward. Tropical storm conditions are now almost certain for much of the East Coast.

Computer models continued their westward shift overnight, shaving off another 20 miles or so from the near-miss scenario projected Wednesday. The National Hurricane Center is now forecasting an eyewall hit on North Carolina’s Outer Banks, again in Cape Cod, Mass., and then further up the coast in Nova Scotia, Canada.

The forecasted track is now a mere 90 miles off the coast of Montauk, N.Y. When you include a 30-mile-wide eye and hurricane force winds that will likely extend outward up to 100 miles from the center, hurricane-force gusts are now likely in the Hamptons.

The key benchmark to watch on Thursday will be whether or not Earl crosses the 75W longitude. If the hurricane comes close to breaking that barrier — currently the westernmost edge of the forecasted track — expect a significant impact to be felt on land.

To get there, however, Earl is battling an upper-level trough currently emerging from the Midwest that will act to “recurve” the storm out to sea. It will be a race to see which one can get to the East Coast first. Unfortunately, at present Earl is winning the race.

Please keep in mind that the National Hurricane Center’s official “Cone of Uncertainty” graphic shows only where the center of Earl is likely to travel. Those deciding whether or not to ride out the storm should remember that a hurricane is not a single point on a map. In a storm as large as Earl, tropical storm force winds — sustained at 40 mph or stronger for more than six hours — will be felt up to 250 miles from the center, and heavy rain and flooding should be expected to last at least 12 hours.

If you live near a creek or stream, remember that the number one killer in hurricanes is freshwater flooding from heavy rain. The Red Cross of Greater New York has prepared a hurricane safety guide.

To recap: The prospect of tropical-storm conditions in the region greatly increased overnight. Here are the latest odds:

* Hamptons: 70%
* New York City: 45%
* Atlantic City, N.J.: 60%
* Hartford, Conn.: 40%

Once again, any continued deviation west from Earl’s forecasted track will continue to boost these odds. And if that happens, our friends on Long Island may end up being the story of the storm after this is all over.

Because of its unique geography, the western Long Island Sound is especially prone to high storm surges as water literally piles up from winds and pressure effects. The shape of the sound itself acts like a funnel and further concentrates this effect. In the sound, Hurricane Earl has a chance of causing a five-foot surge and significant waves on top of the regular tide cycle. Check out the current surge forecasts here.
