Black youth having trouble with Trigonometry: Get them a tutor rather than a basketball, PARENTS !

So many times the parents of black youth are unable to assist their children in the math beyond 5th grade. Sure, it is a cost, but they should seek a private tutor and pay the cost. Parents may have to do without lottery tickets or music DVDs but, it is worth their children learning the mechanics to trigonometry, geometry, etc. rather than failing. Black youth unable to do the math might even pursuade parents they need a basketball to improve their game. parents, sharp on the ball should hold firm that you get to play basketball AFTER they do their trigonometry homework. That is good parenting, black people.

As-Salaam Alaikum Bro. Jamal:

I totally agree with the message in this blog. They sure don't make parents like they used to...when I was growing up me and my brother were not allowed to go outside or play video games until homework was done...now the majority of children today just about doing whatever they please...but it's just like Min. Farrakhan said in his sppech on the murder of Derrion Alberts...when there is no discipline in the home, there is no LOVE!!!

Wa-Alaikum Salaam, Sis. Siebra....Turns out that doing the homework makes the differance in the grade the child gets. It is one of the things my organization stresses to the youth during our mentoring programs conducted in a couple of states. Often times, final tests, derive story problems and the like from selections taken from the homework assignments at the end of chapters. Discipline at the home is a key ingredient to doing the homework.

Touche...it is that confidence that greases motivation; it least that is the way it worked for me. Any signs of lack of confidence allows defeatism to set in which is about the same time you start to conjur up "excuses". And there are lots of those.
