That was the question left on my MomsLikeMe website page this morning. I gently smiled. I checked out the responses the low end was a quarter. Then I saw 50 cents and a dollar. Some moms doled out $2 and one mom gave $5 for the first tooth and then a $1 for each one after that. I was more in the $1 range.
The Tooth Fairy has been MIA from my house for almost a year. My youngest is now 10. During her "Tooth Fairy" years, she lost not one but usually 2-3 teeth at one time. Do the math. That seemed like a lot of money to her. Today, she knows better.
She is now the "Queen" of 500 hundred dollar bills in Monopoly. My daughter used to be so excited when she lost a tooth. She would come running to me holding her loose tooth to announce that she lost it. Then would smile to show me it's former home. We would wash some blood off the tooth, get a piece of paper, place the tooth in it, and wrap it up. My daughter would then take it to her room and place it under her pillow.
The countdown for the next day would begin. However, she would check through out the day. Her thought: the tooth fairy might come early. I knew better. I was waiting til she was fast asleep and then wake her up the next morning. As she went to the bathroom, I placed a dollar bill under her pillow. She would "eek" in delight, show me her dollar and place it in her bank.
My teen knew I was the "Tooth Fairy" and spilled the beans to her sister. I could have strangled her. My tween didn't believe her at first, but then eventually believed her. Spoil sport. I knew she'd figure it out eventually.
The "Tooth Fairy" is a kind of right of passage for some kids. So is Santa. I gave into her "spirit." There's no Easter Bunny in our house. I haven't thought about the Tooth Fairy in a while. I love the warm memories of watching the girls get older and clinging onto a pleasant childhood memory. At today's tooth prices, I would have to get a loan.
