The Queen's Chair: The Republican Party Is A Party Of Hate (544 hits)

Don't know if you have been reading the paper's. The Republican Party is now touting its self as the party of diversity. They are making that claim because some of its members of color won seats during last week's vote. The House is now overwhelmingly Republican. Louisiana's governor is Republican and Indian. They have a Republican in the southwest is Hispanic. They say black voters have been duped by the Democratic Party. I say the Republicans need to know their history.

Did they forget that Blacks originally were members of the Republican Party after slavery? Yes, we were! That party promised 40 acres and a mule (Spike Lee's company) Guess what they broke their promise. And that wasn't the only one.

Besides the 40 acres and a mule. They tried to make us endentured servants and kept us in constant poverty. We may have been free, but we weren't equal. Then came a poll tax, reading requirements in order to vote. ..I could go on.We weren't paid fair wages. And we really couldn't speak out against it because it usually meant death.

The Republican Party used fear to achieve their goal: derailing President Obama's agenda. They have insulted him, critized him, NOT treated with presidential respect and honor that comes with the office he holds, showed racist cartoons of him in private for a good laugh, chastised the First Lady for going on vacation in Spain with her daughter while Americans are suffering through a rough economy (never did that with any of the Reagans), and had the nerve to question whether he was an American citizen or not (Hawaii is a state, people).

I'm sick of the double standard.

The Republicans showed their true colors during this vote. However, it is coming back to bite the. For the next two years, they are going to have to show us something. They just can NOT do anything. The country will suffer.

While the Republicans are trying to keep what they have; the are now appealing to people of color but not for the right reasons. They aren't a party of inclusion and never have been. Even if they would stop being elitist, racist, and opportunist... I still wouldn't believe it. I'm not hearing any great ideas from them just a lot of criticism about what the President is doing wrong. What are they doing right? That's what the American public wants to know.

Rand Paul said he thought for every 20 pages of a bill, 5 days should be allowed to read it. As opposed to a 1000 page bill being put out at midnight and voted on by noon the next day. I think Congress actually reading the bills they vote on would be a good thing.

I think Congress acting like they have some sense would be better.

@ Sister Marsha,
I think some people in the Republican party are guilty of using hate as a tactic to derail Democratic agenda is fair, but to say that the entire Republican party is a party of hate~~ taking it a bit far.

@ Brother Adam,

I also think Paul has a good point. How can one vote on a bill of 1000 pages in less than 24 hours? Are these people speed readers and do they all have backgrounds in law that they could understand the details of the materials? I don't think so!

@ Jen: I realize I made a generalization about The Party but it was just the way that I was feeling at the time. I feel there is a certain percentage of the people who think they can speak for the whole party. And I'm not talking about elected officials. I don't really hear any Republicans standing up for the President when racist cartoons started circling around him.
It's creating that fear about him that I object to.
