Depends on what the food source is. I think most frozen meats should not be kept longer than a year, most time meats can be ruined with freezer burns and much of the flavor of meats will be distored with ice crystals. Frozen veggies can hold up about a year also. Two year and back....TRASH IT! BASH IT! BUT DON'T COOK IT! In addition buy frozen meats in moderation if you're not going to use it straight away. That's my 1/2 cents. You'll save if you freeze less which is less costly, than freezing plenty only throwing away very costly purchases lost to freezer damage. Less with me is better....

David, I think you should trust your instincts and throw it out. If it looks spoiled, and smells spoiled, chances are it's no good and should be thrown out with the trash.
I head all kinds of stories of poeple keeping food in the freezer for years but nothing tops the time where I was watching an Oprah show once about food spoilage and there was this couple who kept milk in their fridge that was 3 years past the expiration date!!! Now THAT was disgusting!!!

there was nothing wrong with the food it was just frozen ,,im talking about from the store to the freezer you know how you see a sale so you get the food and freeze it no burn marks no discoloration nothing wrong of with the food ! it was the date back in 2008..09..,,i could have kept that food..........corey ,,for real,,,, man,,,, you making me fee like l i just threw away some good food ! it was 2 big garbage bags full !
