My fight with the Pear Tree (893 hits)

Hey BWC Friends: I know its been a long day, you’re stressed and we’ve talked about some serious matters here today, so I thought I would tell you a story to try and make you smile, so here goes. Remember, you’ve got to use your imagination.
My Aunt called me this past weekend and asked me to help her with a yard sale, of course I said yes. I didn’t have anything else to do. I probably would have been on the internet or out spending money on my grands. So we get there and let me tell you her house sits on 2 acres of land with these huge pear trees. As we’re doing the yardsale, throughout the day, I keep hearing the pears hitting the ground. I asked my Aunt why she didn’t collect them, she said she leaves them for the deers and just picks them when she wants one. Well, I’m juicing this week and thought if I could collect enough I would have my fruit intake for the whole week. I’m a city girl and don’t know anything about picking pears, so I get a little 2 step ladder and pull at one of the branches and plop the thing clunks me right on top my head, knocks me off the ladder. I mean I’m seeing stars. My 2 aunts are laughing and saying things like “girl you so silly”. You better get from over there before you kill yourself and we not taking you to no hospital, but I’m determined, so I take my jacket off, wrap it around my head for cushion, pull a branch and take off running. Well another pear catches me right on the corner of my forehead, so now I’ve got 2 knots on my head, and my aunts are on the ground laughing like crazy, but I’m not finished. I go find me a hardhat and get back to it. I”m pulling on branches with one hand and holding the hat on with the other and running and pulling, running and pulling and dang if another pear doesn’t plop down on my hand. Those things are big and it feels like its broken, and at this point I’m through. By this time I’ve got an audience, and they are all laughing, so one of the customers at the yardsale, comes up to me and tells me to stand back. She walks up to the tree, stands at the base and shakes and all the pears come tumbling down. I got me a bag, her a bag and my aunts a bag and everybody else that was out there got some too.
They were the sweetest pears I ever tasted and besides that I got to see the deer that night come right up into the yard and eat the pears. I just thought that was amazing. I have pictures but can’t get them off my phone. LOL, but here’s a picture for your imagination. I thought it was funny and thought maybe you would think so too.

MIISRAEL Bride
Im still juicing those things Sista Misrael. This is my last batch. No one can tell what it is. They say every kind of juice except pear juice. Only problem, I didn't know pear juice makes you regular, so I drink a limited amount.

Like most times, the right tool for the right job. There is a tool, don't know what they call it (perhaps Miisrael knows), but it has a long handle with a wire basket, open ended at the top where there are prongs. You reach up and catch the pear, apple, peach, whatever, with the prongs, pull, and it drops into the basket. I'm surprised your aunt didn't have one, but then we would not have this delightful story.

Steve, thanks for the information, although it comes a few weeks too late. My aunt didn't know either or suggest it at the time. She just grew the trees in her yard and enjoyed them for herself and gave to family members. She says she usually puts down a tarp, shakes with a long stick and collect, but again that was after the fact. I was just being a little silly, because its my nature and I had fun. albeit a concussion. I will know the next time. LOL!
