I survived the Thanksgiving holiday. No Black Friday or Cyber Monday for me. My bed was a comfy refuge for me. I used the long holiday weekend to decorate our tree, finish X-mas cards, bake cookies, pull out festive decorations, clean my house, and pull out Christmas caroles. I found my CD with The Temptations's "Silent Night" and bought Wynton Marsalis's Jazz Christmas CD and Alfred St. John's Caribbean Christmas CD. For a while, I'll take a break from R&B and Hip Hop.
I love this time of year. So much to do. I'm ahead of the holiday curb. My shopping is done. There is no snow on the ground, yet. My daughters love the break from school. I'm catching up with friends from high school and college. And I'm already thinking about next year.
It's like thinking about the first day of school (when we were kids) and the promises you make to yourself.: finish all your homework, be on time for school, and to study hard. Right now, I'm trying to figure out what ornaments I will have my daughter's class decorate during their party in a few weeks. How I will sneak presents under the tree and wrap them because one of my children likes to re-wrap gifts. (Just like her aunt.)
I'm also thinking about my kids chorale and band holiday concerts and I now have to check that their outfits are clean and ready. I'm making plans for us to go on our first free family sleigh ride this year. They are predicting snow tomorrow. I'm quite sure my youngest will try and catch me in a snowball fight. She always forgets that I'm a great shot until it's too late.
Writing The Queen's Chair has shown me how fast this year has flown. I've already seen A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and I have to catch Frosty The Snowman and Santa Claus Is Coming To Town. Christmas staples for me.
I can't believe tomorrow is December 1st. The countdown to the holidays has officially begun. The spirit has caught me. I'll be creating more memories for my family. I can't wait.
