Marsalis: Jazz helps you 'overcome tragic things'

Jazz legend Wynton Marsalis recently appeared on MSNBC's Morning Joe to discuss his latest album Victoria Suite and the world of Jazz. The Artistic Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center also discussed the inspiration behind his upcoming album.
"It was a festival that we at the Lincoln Center go to every two years" Marsalis said, "The head of the festival... asked me to write a blues for one of the anniversaries, I said, you know what I'll write long piece. It's 12 movements..each captures some aspect to that festival."

Some predict that Victoria Suite is sure to be another successful album. Marsalis also spoke about what he considers to be the beauty of jazz.
"It allows you to be your self and create and innovate," he said, "And then with the blues, which is an element always about human feeling and being able to overcome tragic things that happen."
