BLACK ON BLACK CRIME ! A PLAN OF ACTION !! (151 hits)


Driven by its mission to increase public awareness and reduce black on black crime in Little Rock, the Coalition has developed a plan of action that includes:

• an education/awareness campaign
• program initiatives with its partners
• collaborations with existing organizations that serve citizens and institutions directly and indirectly affected by black on black crime

In its call to action, the Coalition is soliciting active involvement through volunteerism and monetary contributions. Volunteers are encouraged to participate through any of the following six Coalition workgroups organized to implement the Coalition’s plan:

• faith based
• human services
• media
• neighborhood associations
• political action
• youth

The Center for Healing Hearts and Spirits is a project of the Women’s Council on African American, Affairs, Inc. (WCAAA).

BLACK ON BLACK CRIME STATISTICS

While African Americans comprise 13.5% of the U.S. Population, 43% of all murder victims in 2007 were African American, 93.1% of whom were killed were African Americans.

Victimizations of African Americans from violent crime which include the following; rape/s*xual assault, robbery, aggravated and simple Assault was 24.3% in 2007, with the highest percentages of victimizations within the age ranges of 15-24 totaling a percentage greater than 38%.
