2011 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Federal Holiday (675 hits)

"The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character -- that is the goal of true education."

"The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad people but the silence over that by the good people."

"An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity."

Question for discussion:
Do the way we live our lives honor the dream, work, and sacrifice of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and the countless others who paved the path on which we walk today?

@ Sister Nona,

I believe I do my best because the profession I've chosen is one of service and it's quite a sacrifice taking care of sick people. Without the efforts of Dr. King and countless unsung hereos that we don't know their names, I was able to attend an intergrated University. Without those who paved the way for me and others, going to the Univ. of S.C. I don't believe it would have been possible. I'm constantly trying to better myself and the lives of others I meet through knowledge and understanding. Thanks again for this thoughtful blog.

I endeavor to live a life that honors the sacrifices of my grandmother, parents, aunt, Martin L. King, Jr., and the many others who sacrificed their dreams so that those who came behind them could achieve the unimaginable. They made an investment in freedom with their dignity and even their lives. As I honor God with my life, I also want my life to honor them
