A BLACK HISTORY’S TATTOO
Arms out stretched with chains
and
shackles on ankles marked by blood.
Children racked in tears on colored dark
faces
Drips burnings of branding inks
of iron
and
whips laid a pattern
on
backs
on legs
on
shoulders
in
faces!
The tattoo marked many a death
and
the tattoo gave even more life
The men and women
tamed
by
stripes of the of punishment
became
a tattooed slave.
But freedom came…
and
the struggle to heal the wound
the
sore
has
yet to be healed.
This wound
is a
Black History’s tattoo.
Are the words of hope
revisited?
Is the tattoo
Black History?
Forbidden by a marked skin
and a image on the bodies.
Generation new
has no such tattoo
Has the past
worn
our color
away?

It is such a great privilege to remember our past. Many of today's educators omit some of most important factors of Black History in education in so that our youth are not fully aware of the struggles that accomplished the freedom they have today. It is up to us, our own families to pass our history on, and even continue to make history as we head into the future of each new generation. Where it is still to be said loud ...to be Black and Proud. We cannot lose our heritage ... for it was much too costly.
"Lest we remember our Black History we are colorless"
