Hey peeps,
we are making major strides on the Kelley Williams-Bolar case, the woman who was sent to jail for sending her kids to the wrong school district. At this point, Colorofchange.org and Change.org have several hundred thousand signatures on their petitions, Diddy has spoken up on her behalf and the Governor of Ohio has offered to conduct an investigation. Rev. Sharpton and I are going to rally for education reform in Ohio on Feb 9, so I'll let you know as soon as we confirm a time and location in case you want to attend.
I just took a trip to NYC to speak on the Fox Business Network (I honestly can't stomach Fox News, but I made an exception for Fox Business because I respect John Stossel and am passionate about the topic), debating former Notre Dame Coach Lou Holtz about whether college athletes deserve a share of the billions that they earn for coaches and universities. If you are concerned about this matter, please join ALARM, the Athlete Liberation and Academic Reform Movement. We plan to continue pushing for NCAA reform, since many athletes come from poverty and deserve to have labor rights like the rest of America. We also support the general idea of athletes embracing intellectualism and taking their rightful roles as leaders in our communities. They should be more than corporate mascots.
I also met Ed Gordon on his BET show, which comes on every Sunday. He and I will be on the air discussing Kelley's case as it relates to the broader necessity to pursue meaningful education reform. I also spoke on Power 105.1 about the same issue. I'm glad to be back home, but next week will be busy as well. I'll keep you posted, and I thank each and every one of you for joining us in the struggle.
Until we speak again, be strong, stay blessed and be educated.
Sincerely,
Dr. Boyce Watkins
