New Evidence LAPD Officers May Have Killed Notorious B.I.G. (2575 hits)

CBS Los Angeles is now reporting new evidence that officers within the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) may have played a role in the death of rapper Christopher Wallace, also known as the Notorious B.I.G and Biggie Smalls.

Wallace was murdered March 9, 1997.

According to witnesses, a lone gunman in the driver's seat of a black Chevy Impala pulled up to the truck, where Wallace was sitting in the passenger seat, and opened fire. Wallace died shortly thereafter.

The Wallace family filed suit against the LAPD in 2005, bringing forth additional evidence that implicated LAPD officers in the death of Christopher Wallace. The two officers under suspicion are David Mack and Rafael Perez.

Both Perez and Mack are in prison now for unrelated crimes, Mack for bank robbery and Perez for stealing cocaine.

The new evidence involves an alleged conversation between Perez and a cellmate in the L.A. County jail. Mack and Perez were reportedly close confidants with Death Row Records, the label that represented rap artist Tupac Shakur, who was involved in a highly publicized dispute with Biggie.

In sworn statements, the cellmate said that Mack and Perez were on the scene when Biggie was killed, with Perez working security:

"Perez told Mack that Biggie Smalls was in his truck----circle whose truck?----Kicking it with someone else in the truck."

The cellmate says that Perez never said he set up the murder of Biggie Smalls, but that he strongly believes Perez had something to do with the murder. There were hundreds of pages of documents in the inmate's sworn statements that were not utilized in the original LAPD investigation.

Former LAPD Lead Investigator Russell Poole says that the documents are crucial and that he was frustrated that his investigation in to the murder was thwarted when he got too close to the truth. Poole resigned from the LAPD in 1999.

Poole put things in to proper context by referencing the fact that the LAPD was already dealing with major headaches after the Rodney King beating just a few years earlier, as well as the O.J. Simpson trial. This racially charged environment, according to Poole, made LAPD officials squeamish about the idea of enduring yet another major controversy.

Poole also mentioned the financial incentives of the department for possibly covering up the truth. According to Wallace family attorneys, Rafael Perez was on duty the night of the homicide.

If Perez was involved, then the LAPD would become liable for hundreds of millions of dollars.

Given the LAPD's tattered history of corruption and abuse of power, it is entirely conceivable that officers were involved in the murder of the Notorious B.I.G. as well as the deaths of countless citizens whose stories will never be told.

Additionally, the fact that officers Perez and Mack were both sent to prison gives tremendous credibility to Russell Poole's allegations. One might hope that years later, since the dust has settled and a few bigwigs have retired, the world may finally get the truth about what happened to Christopher Wallace.

The East Coast-West Coast battle between Biggie and Tupac was one of the most unfortunate incidents in the history of hip-hop. The gang warfare mentality of the West Coast, which was artificially contrived when guns and drugs from outside sources were allowed to flood South Central Los Angeles, is reflected in the music of Tupac Shakur and other groups of the day, namely N.W.A.

This kill-or-be-killed mentality spread like social poison with an in-your-face style of music that translated into real violence that ended the lives of scores of young black men.

As a fan of both Biggie and Pac, I believe that Tupac was truly prepared to die. I honestly don't believe that Biggie wanted to die and that he and his partner Sean "Diddy" Combs were hoping that common sense might prevail in this deadly game of chicken.

In the West Coast, though, where children are militarized at an early age and prepared for a short existence, beefs like this typically don't end until someone is in a casket. Years after the deaths of Biggie and Pac, homicide is the leading cause of death for young black males, with gangsta rap serving as fuel for the fire.

But while it's easy to blame the artists for the music that encourages black men to carry guns and kill one another, we must look deeper at the gun manufacturers, government officials, record labels and others who earn billions by creating this deadly environment. Quite a few institutions have blood on their hands, and we must dig to the root in order to stop it.

A man named Harry Billups was the shooter, he worked with the LAPD. The members of the Rampart Scandal were all involved and most of them were on duty in the same area that night. Most of them acted as lookouts. It's unsolved because the police killed him, the same ones who were sent to the scene to catch the shooters when the initial 911 calls came in. How do you catch yourself? Everybody knows who killed Tupac and Biggie, they just can't prove it. That's why Tupac's mom filed a wrongful death suit against Orlando Anderson, and why Biggies mom filed a wrongful death suit against the LAPD. Their mothers know.

Don't believe the movie Notorious either, it's 90% fiction, Biggie did know who robbed and shot Tupac, but failed to defend him after it happened and continued to hang out with the people who did it while Pac was in prison, that's why Pac was so mad. All the evidence is there. The men who robbed and shot Tupac had direct relations to Bad Boy (mainly Puffy), and Biggies death was ordered by Suge Knight, even though Biggie had nothing to do with Tupac's 2nd shooting and death, it was just Suge's twisted way of honoring Tupac. Biggie didn't order Tupac's robbery/shooting, but he knew Tupac was going to be robbed and didn't warn him. He didn't know Tupac would be shot though, that wasn't part of the plan until Tupac pulled his gun on the robbers. It was wrong what Biggie did, but he didn't deserve to die for it.

Thumbs me down, truth hurts and you people that got your info from that movie don't know how deep this really gets and you wouldn't believe it if someone told you. You're clueless and get all your info from movies produced by Puffy. You have no idea what kind of organizations Puffy was associated with at the time and where he got the initial funding for Bad Boy from. You have no idea who approached Tupac on the set of Above the Rim and why they ended up robbing Tupac. Everyone who lived in NY at the time and was older than 15 knows the deal. Even 50 cent (who I'm not particularly a fan of) talks about it in Many Men, so there's your clue. I'm not going to spell it out for you and neither did he. Take the clues given to you and run with it it.

Yes you're right sista, but there is a whole lot more to it than that. They were rivals simply because of where they came from. Pac did try to put Big on. Pac was loved in the east, meaning he could step into the hood and not get got, but he couldn't get Big on because everyone around them was hating and keeping the rivalry going. Thats where Puff came in. Biggie did know what was going on, but it wasn't his place to go to Pac. Those were his peeps, but he did warn Pac to cool it with the dissing, but Pac being the man that he was, wasn't having it.
With that creep Suge handling stuff and always in Pacs ear and Puffy doing the same with Biggie, there was no way it wasn't going to escalate.
Where Puff got his money. My niece was a runner. I worked the same clubs Puff did, only he went lavish and starting hanging with let's say some unsavory people. He was no different from nobody else back in the day trying to get their hustle on. Its how far you take it. I think certain people felt Pac was out of control and they had to save face and take him out. Who didn't he diss.
All in all, the money men were responsible for these 2 incredible talented men to take a fall.

@ Brother Corey,
What Brother Rob said was a bit harsh, but there is truth in what he said.

@ Brother Rob,
I think you are in some way correct, but for the respect of the deseased sometimes it better to not say things about dead people who can't defend themselves out of respect. ((hint-hint))

Regarding this blog though, I think most people know that there was a cover up and we know that we can't believe what we see and hear in movies or magazines, but its good to know that things are now coming out mostly because Smalls' mom hasn't given up on getting justice for her deceased son.

The bigger issue is why hasn't more people in the Black community who claim they know the "real deal" come forward and stop the "no snitching nonsense" that keeps homicides and murders from being solved if we as Black people are so unified and are suppose to be our brothers (sisters') keepers?

The truth will never come out, because people don't snitch in the hood. If you ever lived in the hood, you wouldn't have to ask that question. There's no protection in the hood. Whose supposed to protect you. The perpetrator? No you handle your business!
That was funny brother Corey. Who are we? God doesn't even wish death on another!

Yes... Growing up in New York... There was a CODE!!! And if the code was broken... Oh! Well... Even in smaller towns, you have informants... who's on the take.. who's got police protection... which officer owes you a favor... Cops that kill have cops that cover up/taint evidence or just somehow... stuff comes up missing... including folks or members of their family!

you know Biggie was buried... so until his case is solved... there are no statue of limitations... Homicide Investigations are never closed.

What strikes me as odd even after all of these years... Tupac was cremated (so they say) I have never known a homicide victim get cremated... DNA is gone.... and I read somewhere that members of his group.... smoked his ashes!!

Dang Sister Cynthia, you get it. Only someone that's been there and even know a little of what goes on in the hood could. I get sick of holier than thou people talking about the rat race, when they're not doing jack to help those down there out.
I remember my daughter was dancing and opening for Meth Man and Suge wanted her so bad, she stepped down and derailed her career because of that sorry a**. Its taken a 360 huh! What goes around, the saying goes. Somehow I believe that the perpetrators who caused the deaths of those two and others who died in the game have or will receive their justice.

---each is receiving justice for their Decadence.

my understanding is that the police in this case were cocaine dealers and murderers, that death row unleashed biggie, who if I were to READ the lyrics of his songs, WAS a lowLife cocaine dealer whose drugs ruined American communities and lives.

I AM famous littleBoy corey; I HAD to develop safe housing for Families in areas that lowLifes sold DECADENT cocaine and DESTROY drug dealers and their glorifing helpers that bought tapes from TRASH.......................

@ Anita,
I'm not interested in 'silly codes' & very uninterested in ghetto living especially if it means that telling the truth will keep a mother from getting justice for her dead son. You can keep your "hood". Living in bad neighborhoods is nothing to be proud of. ((lol))

@Brother Rob,
Allah bless you for being real.

Its not what you're interested in. Its about the other side of the story. If you haven't lived it and are not interested in it, then you shouldn't comment on it, because you know nothing about it. Don't forget her son wasn't an innocent in this. When you live by the sword, you die by the sword. I'm very proud of my hood. It taught me not to be blind to the prejudices of life and let me know that my struggle would be hard, but I would survive. You can't learn that with easy living, so yes I will keep my hood. There's very strong and smart people who came up out the hood, and yes my SISTER, they lived by the same code, so Bless You too.

There's nothing silly watching cops come up in your home and treat you like dogs cause of who you are and the color of your skin and where you come from for no reason other than they think they can.
I feel you Brother Corey. Thats real talk!

Listen to our beautiful educated Sister up there brother Corey. Yeah she from the hood, but she making it. I'm from the hood and making it. It's not where you came from, but where you're going. Don't let me get started on all our civil rights leaders and organizers who came from the hood, and all lived by the code. It really irks me when I hear people get on their high horse and down us little people instead of reaching out and pulling the next sista or brotha up with them. I'm dam proud of where I came from, but I'm also proud of having enough sense to have made it out.
There's that mind set again, let the man teach you to hate yourself, because black ain't beautiful. Sorry Wrong answer!

I've said this often!! I Grew Up during the Black Panter Movement... Say It Loud!!! Im Black and Im Proud!!! I love me some little ole yellow-light skinned me to some....while others.... BLACK !! I am who I am!!

I know Sister what you mean. I go back to the home and can't believe whats happened to some of my peeps. They got caught out there. When we was young, we would say, I ain't never gonna be like so and so and it breaks my heart to see my old friends are now crackheads, strung out, just doing bad. If I can pull somebody out I will do everything in my power to do so, but sometimes and its sad, people don't want to do the right thing. They've been so conditioned, they just can't see the light. Oh Well!

BUT just pulling one out... My niece is surrounded by the hard life (and sadly to say it's family... both her uncles (my brothers) I wanna get her out of it.... Just to show her that there is another side of the tracks... not to ever forget... but to appreciate the change.... and that I love her enuff to make a difference....

Yes, I feel you on that. My Brother is the same way. We got him now, but every month or so he jumps in his truck and slides back to NY to do whatever. I think we all know what that is. The thing is he sees everybody doing good down here, but can't let the life go. He's one of the smartest people I know in my book anyway. He can take a car, boat anything mechanical apart and put it back together just looking at it. He's an artist. My african jewelry, he drew all the pictures, awesome, but you can't leave him alone or your stuff will disappear, I don't care how big it is. Its funny but not funny. Just another one lost. Its so sad to see things like this happening. What we gonna do sista, besides talk about it?

Anita... I talk... I embrace.. sometimes I feel if everyone in our community just take one... of our less fortunate and just help... You know everybody can't be fixed... Everyone cannot be saved... BUT if "I" try to atleast connect with one... Then that's one who inturn will help another one... I'm for working within the confines of my community... Like I said before, my son has the opportunity to get out of the rual/inner city schools... BUT why? I check out his teachers, I involve myself with parent teacher meetings... I make certain that he is prepared and understand that his JOB is education! And I expect a lot.... and YES! I can most certainly feel ya on those disappearing acts.... but it comes from within... it's all about self worth... how we value ourselves.

It's going to take another MILLION MAN MARCH... or another FREEDOM RIDE... or another MARCH ON WASHINGTOM, BUS BOY COT.... TO get us back on trail... the unity of the past is nil... void... we are simply going to have to put up.....

Oh My Goodness, I feel you Sister. Rev. Al was just talking about that yesterday. He said people ask him why he march all the time. He said when Martin was marching they was asking him the same thing and look what happened, and when we come together in unity and march for a cause, major changes takes place. He's going to keep on walking til his feet won't let him anymore. Amen to that.
If we feed into the likes of the negativity coming from our own people on this site, we will fail. There's always a devil in the midst trying to divide and conquer. I've learned over the past year to let them say what they want & ignore them, because God is in my corner. If I treat them as they treat me, I then become one of them. After all didn't they condemn Jesus. AMEN!
Bless you too Powell!

We see you have gone off topic and are picking a fight with Corey that you obviously cannot win (LOL)...I would like to get back to the subject of Biggie, if that's alright?

There has been talk for years about who killed Tupac and Biggie and why. And all we hear from the media outlets is 'No one knows'. WRONG! Everyone knows, except people outside the Hip Hop community who aren't fans. The fans know, the police know, their mothers know. Tupac's mother filed a wrongful death suit against Orlando Anderson (the Crip member that killed Tupac). Also keep in mind that 13 Crip members were killed in Compton the week Tupac died. Now as far as Biggie's mother is concerned, Ms. Wallace filed a wrongful death suit against the LAPD (The ones who killed Biggie). Two of the cops who were involved in Biggie's shooting are both in prison now on unrelated charges, David Mack and Rafael Perez. Nino Durden, another one who was involved in Biggie's shooting got 5 years in prison which he already finished, for an attempted murder charge on a person he wrongfully arrested. Tupac's death had nothing to do with Biggie or eastcoast/westcoast war. Biggie's death had everything to do with the eastcoast/westcoast war, and Suge Knight arranged that one. Nobody was ever charged with their deaths. As far as the first time Tupac was shot, people said they didn't know who did that either. But everyone knows. It was 2 men hired by Jimmy Henchman (who worked for P Diddy), King Tut and Haitian Jack. King Tut and Haitian Jack were both affiliated with The Black Mafia Family (BMF), which was a drug-trafficking organization originally based out of Detroit. Biggie and Diddy knew they were going to rob Tupac and didn't warn him, but they didn't know he was going to be shot (at least that's the word on the streets). Randy Walker (Stretch) was with Tupac when it happened, and he had helped arrange the whole thing and that's how they knew Tupac would be there at the studio at that exact time. Stretch started hanging out with Bad Boy affiliates after the shooting. Stretch was shot and killed a year later, coincidently on the exact same date that Tupac was shot a year earlier (in November 1995). Tupac dissed Stretch on the first verse of "Holla at Me" when he got out of prison. Lots of people don't know who Tupac's talking about, but there's one line where he says "you could never be LIVE", which is referring to the group Stretch was in when Tupac met him, called Live Squad. Tupac mentions most of these people in his song "Against All Odds". Why hasn't anyone came forward? Because the police KNOW what happened but never looked or don't care to look. And as with most black homicides (especially those involving rappers), they don't care...
