'Saudi regime bound to collapse' (299 hits)

Member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Majlis Mohammad Karim Abedi

A senior Iranian lawmaker has sharply criticized the Saudi Arabian regime for killing civilians in its deadly invasion of Bahrain.

"The killing of Muslim people in Bahrain will bring the House of Saud's regime closer to collapse," said Mohammad Karim Abedi, a member of Iran's Majlis (parliament) Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy, Fars News Agency reported on Saturday.

Riyadh should be answearable to Saudi protesters rather than being allowed to engage in a military effort in the state of Bahrain, he said, referring to recent demonstrations in the kingdom.

"Today, the Muslim people of Saudi Arabia have legitimate demands from the government of the House of Saud, but the government only pays attention to the demands of the US and the UK," Abedi said.

Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have dispatched armed forces to Bahrain to assist Manama's crackdown on the nationwide anti-government uprising.

Manama-sanctioned violence against the protesting public, which had already claimed several people, has intensified ever since the deployment.

Sheikh Ali Salman, the head of the Shia faction of Al Wefaq, Bahrain's largest party, called on Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah to withdraw his forces.

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad also condemned the Saudi military presence in Bahrain as an effort to suppress the desire of Bahraini citizens for change.

Thousands have turned out in the Islamic Republic of Iran, Iraq, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia in recent days to protest the Saudi invasion.
