NOBEL PRIZE WINNER JODY WILLIAMS SAYS OBAMA SHOULDN'T HAVE ACCEPTED HIS NOBEL PEACE PRIZE...WTF? (662 hits)
The Nobel Peace Prize that Barack Obama won in 2009 is back in the news again, now that American forces are involved in military action against the Libyan government.
Jody Williams, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997 for her work eliminating land mines, was on 'The Colbert Report' (Weeknights, 11:30PM ET on Comedy Central), where the talk quickly turned to Obama and his controversial Nobel.
Williams joked with Colbert that when she won the award she was afraid she wouldn't accomplish anything else, making her "The Nobel footnote."
"No, that turned out to be Barack Obama," Colbert corrected.
"I don't even want to go there," Williams said, sounding very much much like a woman with something on her mind.
"Let's go there for a second," Colbert said, responding like a good host should when a guest offers up such a provocation.
"I was impressed when Obama recognized he didn't deserve (the Nobel) and he said it out loud. I would have, like, really been impressed if he said 'therefore I can't accept it'."
After the build up that preceded it, Williams's diplomatic way of saying Obama should have left a certain medal in Oslo was a bit of a let down. Still, point taken.
