A Milwaukee mother's search to find her daughter carries on, nine years after she went missing.
Alexis Patterson's mother held a "Sweet 16" birthday party Saturday night for her daughter.
Patterson was seven-years-old when she vanished in May of 2002, somewhere between her home and her school -- Hi Mount Elementary, near 49th and Garfield in Milwaukee.
The school is where her step-father told police he dropped the little girl off. Patterson hasn't been heard from since, despite wide-spread investigations and searches.
"We're not going to celebrate a funeral. I want everybody to get up and celebrate her homecoming because she's coming home," said Ayana Patterson, the little girl's mother. "She has not been found and we're waiting for her safe return. We don't think about nothing else. We just know that she's coming home."
Patterson's birthday is actually on Monday, but the weekend made it possible for family and friends to come together to keep the search and the hope alive.
Ayana Patterson said the family is still searching for the girl and has been advised by law enforcement that they are still searching, too. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Milwaukee Police Department.
