Friends Keep Missing Student's Memory Alive
Ty Thomas Disappeared 5 Months Ago
PERU, Neb. -- It's been five months since a Peru State College student from Bellevue vanished without a trace. Her friends, however, refuse to give up.
Ty Thomas disappeared in December, and intensive searches have turned up nothing.
Neville Paul made a pact with Thomas years ago.
"We made an agreement to always be there for each other," Paul said.
On Sunday, Paul and other friends of Thomas made good on that promise and distributed posters on the college campus in an effort to keep their missing friend on the minds of the students.
"We pray for her. We pray for her family," said Shannon Ennis. "We want to get the story out there more."
With the warmer weather, investigators said they will be back searching the banks of the Missouri River, but recent flooding will make the task more difficult.
Ennis visited the landing where much of the search effort in the river was focused. It was her first time there.
"I've never been here, of course, and it's hard to talk with her family and be close with them. It's hard," she said.
Thomas' friends have set up a Facebook page for her. Her family checks the message regularly. There is also information about how to buy T-shirts remembering Thomas. All the proceeds from the shirt sales will go to her family. The Facebook page can be seen by clicking here.
