ISLAMABAD (Reuters) – A senior Pakistani intelligence official said one of Osama bin Laden's daughters had seen her father being shot dead by U.S. forces, and was one of about 10 relatives of the al Qaeda leader in custody pending interrogation. The official, who declined to be identified, said the daughter, aged 12 or 13, was one of the people who had confirmed that the mastermind of the September 11, 2001 attacks had been killed by U.S. commandos in a raid early on Monday. The relatives -- one of bin Laden's wives and up to eight children -- will be interrogated and then probably turned over to their countries of origin, and not the United States, in accordance with Pakistani law, he said. The official said the wife and children were left behind after an American transport helicopter, possibly an MH-60 Sea Hawk, was abandoned because of mechanical problems. He said there was not enough room for the group on the other helicopters, which were transporting bin Laden's body, other male captives and the commandos. A small U.S. strike team dropped by helicopter to bin Laden's hide-out in Abbottabad, near the Pakistani capital Islamabad, and shot him dead.

I want to see a "dead" Bin Laden. I'm a "Doubting Thomas" and I will not believe until I see the photo and that's a fact. This man boasted when he killed thousands of the world's citizens and why should the American govt. be afraid to release the photo? Those sick people who are bitter with envy and have their hearts full of evil are going to retaliate regardless of whether we show the photo of Bin Laden or not. When someone is bold enough to come to your house and attack, once he's killed make an open show of him to send a message to the rest of the followers that the same will be done to anyone of them who dares. Simple.

You know releasing a photo will only feul the conspiracy theories.
Look what happened with the birth certificate. After two years of saying "Why doesn't he release his birth certificate...he finally does--and they still don't believe it.
Photographs are easy to doctor--so even if it is a perfeclty legit photo there will be an army of doubters. That is one reason why I am guessing they will not release the photo--they know it will not be definitive proof of anything.
I think the best evidence for it are the reactions of the various stakeholders--like the Pakistani Intelligence Service. They have zero incentive and no reason to back any US conspiracty theories.
It was the highoy respected Reuters News SErvice that reported the Bin Laden family as witnesses. After the Americans left, the Pakistani army took control of the compound and all the people in it, including Bin laden's wife and children. I don't think they are held in custody as criminals--but as witnesses. They are taking statements.
Now the information has leaked out--because the Pakistan Intelligence wants the information public.
Another way we will know this is real is how al Qaeda responds to this. If they treat im as a martry for the cause, we will know he is really dead.
You will never have the opportunity to put your hands in his side and feel his wounds.
So the next best thing is to find reliable sources and give them the benefit of the doubt!!!

I find it interesting that no one speaks about Ben Ladens parents. They are best friends with the Bush family. Wouldn't you think they would have a lot to say or even approached by the news media? Even with the atrocities that Ben Laden had committed, wouldn't you expect a family, with all of their billions, find a way to protect their son?

It's a shame that the photo isn't going to be released, because as an American I like a little drama. I am still a 'Doubting Thomas' because I've been under the impression that he was dead long ago. It would have been better to let the family take the body and bury it at least we could see the people crying and stuff like that. It just seems so surreal... it happened too, fast without anyone being able to digest or graps the reality of what happened. You know what the "Book" states, "Be it according to your faith" and each one of us has a "measure" of faith so mine (faith) is very small like the grain of mustard seed when it comes to my Govt. Thanks for the blog though and the great dialogue.

I just now posted Obama's statemnet and his explanation for not releasing the photos.
In my opinion, he makes perfect sense. The bottom line is--we will not be seeing OBL or hearing from him ever again. Burying the body at sea means there is no place on earth his followers can go to make into a shrine.
The photos can easily be used for propaganda purposes in ways that will cost American lives.
I think this entire mission was handled perfectly at every stage.
If anyone can stand under a banner that says MISSION ACCOMPLISHED it is PRESIDENT OBAMA.
He won't do it because he is smart and he really doesn't need to.

@Jen, thanks for confirming my saying how the sight of the dead body of bin Laden will continue if not speed up the deaths of innocent peoples all over this planet, but wh ocares about facts when it comes to personal selfish emotions being satisfied...
