WILL THE RIVER GO THAT HIGH TODAY?
Memphis, TN
05.10.11

Flooding of the Muddy Mississipi is due to reach it's highest crest today around 12 Noon Memphis time [CST] . Early stages reported the river is at a 46.7 level but the rising is increasing within hours to reach the 48 inch crest. This is the recording breaking crest since 1937. In addition Memphis has been the focus of national and world news. People for all around the world are watching the Mighty Muddy Waters in Memphis as the river takes on it's historic breaking rise.

Many homeowners are seeing their homes covered now as also many locals are anticipating evacuations is their last and only option. However, portions of the city remain out of the river's way and not in threat of waters barging in. In far off places people are calling City Hall to see if the home of Elvis known as Graceland is in danger of the river flooding waters, but Graceland is several miles away from the river and has no present danger of being invaded. There is also shelter provided at the Raleigh Springs Mall for those needing a place to wait out the rising crest today and attain information regarding further assistance.

Downtown is loaded with news media cresting in from all over the world!
It's almost a specticale to see! That's really in high volume....

THE HIGH WATER AND
MEMPHIS IN MAY
BAR-B-Q CONTEST
IT'S ALL FAIR!!!
Memphis, TN
05.10.11

The Memphis in May International Bar-b-Q contest had to move it's event this year due to the rising crest of the Mississippi. Contestants and their set-ups have been forced by the river's crest to go to the old Memphis Fairgrounds Area to hold the events and cook-offs. Presently, contestants are putting up their tents and grills at that location today. It was first considered to have the contest out at Shelby Farms, but many wanted it closer to the inner city and decided to host it at the Fairgrounds area. This area was once used as the Libertyland Theme Park for many years; but closed due to lack of attendance and city funding. Under some new construction plans to use parts of the site utilize development as part of the University of Memphis .
Meanwhile, the grills will be cooking and the contests begins. This event is attended by hundreds of thousands of contestants from all around the globe!!!

You can read about the whole contest in my own news blog of

Hello Rich!

I'm safe so far. At present homes in my area have not been issued an evacuation notice. However, just a few blocks southeast of me many homes in low line communities are experiencing flooding at a pretty face rate. The river did crest today just under the predicted 48 ft about 47.6 last I acknowledged. It's tough on some residents over in an areas near the Wolf River and in the areas of town called Frazier and Millington. Those residents down in neighboring Tunia, Mississppi have high levels and that's also where all the casinos are covered with high water levels and are closed. Very high waters down there can only allowed in by boats.

Thank you for your prayers! I am also in prayers for our city and those who have become displaced due to the flooding.

@Irma...basically the most common food crop in most areas are corn, soybeans and veggies like greens and cabbages and lettuce also tomatoes. The larger farmers last reported to the news that because of flooding many of these crops will perish so saving them has a very slight chance. These crops can be replanted but it will be costly and they have the waiting while floods waters recede to see if it's even possible to replant. Local gardens at the Farmer's Market reported a drop in fresh vegs this week and turnout because of flooding dropped to a first time low seen in months. Those selling had to increase their prices about 10 to 20% to make a small profit. Lots of crops won't make it. This day flood stages remain about the same as yesterday and most people are out of harm's way at present. I'll keep you up to any changes.

Please to all who read this:
By the way please pray/chant for me and my family....I recently lost a brother but not to the flooding. His funeral is Saturday. Thanks in advance.
