Stillman President And Faculty Make Who's Who in Black Alabama - Inaugural Edition (2495 hits)

Stillman President Ernest McNealey, along with faculty members Dr. Linda Beito, Dr. Rosianna Gray and Dr. Luvada Harrison, attended the unveiling reception for the Inaugural Edition of Who's Who in Black Alabama.

The May 14 unveiling reception, hosted at the Alys Robinson Stephens Performing Arts Center on the campus of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, was championed by Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell as part of the celebration of African-American achievement across Alabama. Birmingham native, Comedian Rickey Smiley hosted the event and Recording Artist Ruben Studdard, also a Birmingham native, performed two songs during the unveiling reception.

"This is a great achievement," said Catrena Norris-Carter, associate publisher of Who's Who in Black Alabama. "We have published Who's Who in Black Birmingham for the past three years. It is exciting to have a statewide publication celebrating high-achieving African Americans from across the state."

A photograph and short biography was published for President McNealey who has a long and distinguished career as an educator, artist and champion for the common good. Also featured in the publication was Dr. Linda Beito, Associate Dean of Arts and Sciences and Associate Professor of Social Sciences; Dr. Rosianna Gray, Chair of the Department of Natural Sciences and Assistant Professor of Biology; and Dr. Gregory McPherson, Assistant Director of Bands and Director of the Institute for Jazz and Contemporary Music.

Though the reception took place in Birmingham, the Who's Who in Black Alabama project is a statewide effort. The publication's introduction writer and event keynote speaker was Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (D-AL). Joining her in support of the publication at the unveiling was its foreword writers, Birmingham Mayor William Bell, Mayor of Mobile, Ala. Samuel Jones, and Attorney Kendall Dunson of Montgomery, Ala. Also scheduled to appear is National SCLC President, Rev. Howard Creecy, Jr. and Miss Black Alabama, LeNa Ferguson Powe.

"This inaugural edition of Who's Who in Black Alabama is the first statewide publication giving recognition to the many men and women who are making their mark in specific occupations, professions, or in service to others in their community, said Mayor Bell.

What a great achievement indeed. Congratulations to President McNealey on his awesome accomplishment and his commitment to excellence. I wish I had been there though to see my man Richey! He's so darn country. I love his old church lady act. It reminds me of my roots and the times in the church listening to the Senior Choir. No one liked listening to them sing. Lawdhamercy!!
