13,000 gathered to see the sights in a three day conference highligting Japanese animation. Many dressed the parts of their favoriate animinated characters. As also the games, costumes and music and art were part of a 3 day conference. Sponsers said it the conference was one of the best and well attended ones in Memphis. Launa Morris the convention organizer was reported as saying "They have to act in character." "So basically, for the weekend, they get to be their favoir character... Many attendees had favorites along with great news that "Dragonball Z, and "Speed Racer" may later become live features! The Hilton was the host of the convention lasting three days ending in collecting about 1,000 dollars in proceeds to benefit the American Red Cross which will aid flood and or tornadoes victims.

Three representives including Memphis Congressman Steve Cohen along with Reps. from Mass, and Texas introduced legislation that would allow states to "legalize, regulate, tax and control" marijuana without federal interferrence.
Cohen was reported as supporting the bill after reading that former UN General Kofi Anan, and former Regan-era secretary George Shultz and former chairman Paul Volker has called for an end of war and drugs. Cohen views on marjuana are widely known and he has been a supporter of medical marjuana. Now he's hoping that the bill will support his efforts to have marijuana legal and would give states an option to choose on it's legalizing.
The principle sponsors of the bill are being called the odd couple...they are two..but's more likely becoming...

A WHITE HOUSE STRONG CITIES STRONG COMMUNITIES PROJECT has selected Memphis as one of it's participating cities in a pilot program. The Strong Cities, Strong Communities Project basic initiative is to give a vital role to local communities like those in Memphis to aid in strengthening the economy and that local communities can utilze government resources more effciently. This federal pilot will allow a team to acualize strageties for making Memphis more vital with it's community services and output to increase for possible but not necessarily increases to federal funding.
