Stillman's Jones is All-American at NCAA Division II Track & Field National Championships (3387 hits)

Stillman junior nursing major, Janae Jones, placed 6th in the national overall women's 400-meter at the NCAA Division II Track and Field National Championships in Turlock, Ca. She also ranked 11th in the nation for the women's 200-meter.

To be an All-American, a runner must be in the top eight runners in the nation. "This is my first time as an All-American," said Jones. "It feels great! It is a really big accomplishment."

"I was attending another college, and they didn't treat me well, so I transferred to Stillman and it has been great here. I have been excelling and accomplishing all of my goals," she said.

To date, Jones' fastest 400-meter was 54.7 seconds and her fastest 200-meter was 23.6.

"I can't wait to see how the future goes, and hope to continue to grow and improve as a student-athlete," she said.

"Coach Goode is a great coach too. We work very hard and run very hard every day," she said. Goode is in his third year as Head Men's and Women's Track Coach at Stillman.

"I'm very proud of the athletes that made it to the Championships as well as the hardworking athletes that didn't make it to Championship this year. I had six athletes qualify to participate in the Championship. They included: Chester Hightower in the 200-meter dash and the 4x400 Meter Relay; Alexandria Montgomery running the 200-Meter Dash; Michael Oliver running the 110 Hurdles; Tyrell Moore, Oliver Wells and Terrance Swinson running the 4x400 Meter Relay. This is the most students that we have had to go to the National Championship. I am so proud of the whole team."

Stillman's men's and women's track team also had 16 athletes that received awards at the SIAC Conference Championships having finished third on the men's side and fifth on the women's.

Jones is a Mobile, Ala., native, daughter to Chevelle Jones.
