THINK PROGRESS, September 30, 2011--On Wednesday, Judge Sharon Lovelace Blackburn issued an opinion that struck down parts of Alabama’s radical new anti-immigrant laws, but left in place a provision requiring public schools to “systematically determine the immigration status of public school students and to report the number of undocumented students in their district to the state.” Many of the laws critics feared that the children of undocumented families would be afraid to go to school if it made it easier to deport their parents — and those fears have now been validated. The Alabama online news hub al.com reports today about one school in Foley, Alabama where dozens of students either stayed home or withdrew altogether, fearful that the new law was going to lead to the deportation of their families. The principal of the school said some undocumented parents are even making arrangements for documented parents to take custody of their children if they are deported: Many of the 223 Hispanic students at Foley Elementary came to school Thursday crying and afraid, said Principal Bill Lawrence. Nineteen of them withdrew, and another 39 were absent, Lawrence said, the day after a federal judge upheld Alabama’s strict new immigration law, which authorizes law enforcement to detain people suspected of not being U.S. citizens and requires schools to ask new enrollees for a copy of their birth certificate. [...] Lawrence said that parents are afraid that they’ll get arrested and detained, and be cut off from their children. “Many have made arrangements with American citizens in case they are separated from their children,” Lawrence said. “One of our mothers has agreed to accept seven families’ worth of children, just in case.” “We don’t want them to take away our children,” said Dawn DuPree Kelley, the principal of Greenwood Elementary School in Jefferson County, Alabama. The state’s governor, Robert Bentley (R-AL), remains defiant, saying, “I will continue to fight at every turn to defend this law against any and all challenges.” Alabama’s interim state superintendent has emphasized that schools will not be refusing admission to students because their parent’s citizenship status and that students already enrolled won’t be checked.

Or the Breathing While Brown law.
NO matter they call it, this is discriminatory and unfair and counterproductive.

Interesting about Justice Thomas, isn't it?
I would like to see him face some consequences for what he is doing. Remember back in the 60's, Justice ABe Fortas had to resign because he accepted money from political supporters--far less money than Thomas did.

I am putting tis on this post of yours because of the segment satire about the interview with tis small Mexican child about if she wanted her father to return to the USA and she said 'no' over the begging fo rher father to return here, because he is so needed and we in America apologize for all of this...
and, also because it is satire , but it is the reality of what is going to happen to the rich people giving money to go after these children like this in this post.(smile)
OUR CHILDREN WILL ALWAYS BE BLESSED AND KEEP OUT OF HARMS WAY LIKE THIS...

Rich it is both a curse as well as a blessing that Alabama can not be protected from its own self. some examples,
1. Each school gets paid for the student answering 'present' to roll call in class each day.
2. Our first duty as a democracy is to protect the CHILDREN first and farmost...now add this to the natural instinct to protect THE CHILDREN!!!!!!!!!!!
3. "SUFFER LITTLE CHILDREN COME UNTO ME" knows no race, creed, skin color, political party nor short term pleasure as this state is enjoying at this moment!!!!
4. This state still needs the work force next year that they had from those immigrants this year, but will not have it at the rate they are going as only a start of ow this is going to back fire on this state.
5. UNION JOBS ARE THE THING OF THE FUTURE IN AMERICA. (S-M-I-L-E)

@Rich, personally, "I" am glad that more and moe citizens are beginning to see a little of Hitler's Germany in some of these laws and, the more we see our college students taking to the streets, the more of HISTORY WILL BE BROUGHT UP BY THESE STUDENTS!!!!!!!! (SMILE)

This morning on of all places FOX, they were talking about why governor Cristy should not get into this race. Somethings that is worst than governor Perry's comin gin on the emotions of his prayer meeting! It seem that the only things the Conservatives and Christy have in common is he against Unions which is not good for the right and certainly not good for the Teaparty!
Cristy is for from a woman's right to choose to global warming is man caused and we just say what he had to say about those against Muslims and thankin gour president for the aide and comfort he gave to his state!!!!!!!!!!!
SO WHEATHER CRISTY COMES IN OR NOT THEY STILL HAVE TO ADMIT THEY HAVE NO ONE THEY HAVE ANY FAITH IN THAT ARE RUNNING AGAINST OUR PRESIDENT...HERMAN CAIN JUST WON ANOTHER RACIST STATE, MO. Rich as a person who see all things as cause and effect, I believe I just now saw something else on Fox that is going to help these children in Alabama in the long run as the right-wingers become seen more and more as not good for our nation and what they have been doing fo ryears and years now against main street is coming back on them.
Watching their program Geraldo At Large the discussion of the Health care Bill is going to the Supreme court and how calls for Justice Thomas not being able to be a part of this case because of his wife's involvements with the Teaparty's fund raisings...ti hit me like a ton of bricks how Justice Thoma s just may get to live in the no man's land. I am sure that thomas and his wife felt safe after Weiner left office, because gettiing rid of thomas for ethical reasons was his goal will be coming back in full force with this case on Health care Bill and this is not good for them with this "Voter's Remorse" in full swing and our president in full campaign mode against our "do nothing congress" ...
CAUSE AND EFFECT. lol!!! (smile)

Yes Rich, but the beauty about Thomas is he knows he got on teh Supreme court not because of the congress, but only becaue the black community came to his rescue...the black community was more upset with anita hill than they were with him ...
which puts Thomas in what it true hell on earth, because he knows who got him there in the first place and like Maxine waters know he as does she that she has not one to watch her back!!! to be truthful and because I know you trust me to know what it is I speak of when I speak...congress as well as the supreme court knows they have no place to run any moer and the best thing they can hope for is noting happens to our president...notice how they are not planing the same game as they did with calling for the second amendment as they did the last time
from th lady they forced out of his administration now running against Brown for the senate...and have you seen van Jones lately...did you get a letter from Media Matters if you did not then media matters has now joined Jones organization so the right wing are now up against street fighters who don't give a good damn about mega-bucks it is the streets they must now fignt on. lol...
It can only get worst for those who have thought our president is weak, he is patient and remember what I am always saying about ow we are a patient peoples. lol (smile) Our advantage is they still believe they are experts on my people when they know nothing about us...they should read you book...we can make things out of nothing except will power to make it better for the next generation.
