WOMAN EXPLAINS DIFFERENT MUSLIM HEAD COVERINGS AND WHY SHE WEARS A HIJAB (1012 hits)
Nawal is a Muslim-American and one of the stars of TLC’s reality show, “All-American Muslim." The powerful, new eight-part series takes a look at life in Dearborn, Michigan -- home to the largest mosque in the United States -- through the lens of five Muslim-American families.
On Thursday’s show, Anderson Cooper asks Nawal why she has chosen to wear a hijab -- a head covering traditionally worn by Muslim women. The word “hijab” means curtain or cover.
“I don't represent all Muslim women,” says Nawal. “But for me, wearing the hijab is a commitment I've decided to make, since I was 8 years old, to God.”
“When someone sees that, what should they know about you?” asks Anderson.
Nawal answers, “I'm a Muslim woman practicing the faith.”
Shadia, another Muslim-American seen in “All-American Muslim,” chooses not to wear any form of headdress. In this clip, she explains why...
One of the best shows by Anderson Cooper I've ever watched...I applaud Nawal and Shadia for going on, and applaud Anderson for having an open mind...
