BLACK FARMERS GIVEN EXTRA TIME
TO STAKE THEIR CLAIM!
Memphis, Tennessee
November 30, 2011
At least 200 local Black farmers gathered at the Department of Agriculture in downtown Memphis to be added to stake their claim in a class action suit against discrimination for qualifying loans. A local news source stated that the famers had been denied applications for loans applied for between 1988-1996. Farmers said they would apply for a loan but were turned down, and on return visits they were not allowed to filed another application for a loan. So a federal judge ordered Black farmers who were denied loans to have extra time to filed in the class action discrimination suit against the Department of Agriculture. Each farmer has an opporutunity to received at least $50,00 in the federal court. Because the lawsuit was won last month and the federal judge waived the stature of limitations allowing the famers to add their names to the list.
