We bid thee farewell...
A most prominent singer/ vocalist Cesaria Evora is well known for singing in the bay sides of Cape Cod Verde in the 1950’s. With her African roots she took to stage singing as a teen-ager. The singer was known widely as “The Barefoot Diva” because she would remove her shoes in stage performances. Her international fame came late in life with her 1988 album “La Div Aux Pieds Nus” which is French for {Barefoot Diva} found much popularity in France. In 1995 her album “Cesaria” was relased in more than 12 countries and brought her first Grammy nomination., and soared to sales in the millions. Evora was born in Mindelo, a port city on the island of Sao Vincente on August 27, 1941 and had six siblings. During her youth she sang on boats and received drinks as her pay. With heavy use of alchohol and smoking she suffered with alcolhism. Painstakingly she stopped drinking and due to her health conditions in December of 1994. Miss Evora was never married, but mothered two children. She finally won a Grammy for World Music Catagory with her musical album "Voz De Amor" in 2003.
Evora departed this life from heart complications at the age 70 years old.
