BBRAXTON, the upscale gentleman’s grooming shop, recently celebrated the one year anniversary of their relaunch. Owner Brenda Braxton, the Tony nominated actress, along with her business partner Antoinette Williams, threw a bash at the salon to thank family, friends, and clients for their support.
BBRAXTON, on 1400 5th Avenue on 116th Street, has the old world luxurious feel and state of the art amenities. It’s what owner Brenda Braxton calls “exceptional grooming for exceptional men.” I had the chance to speak with her briefly at the party.
LH: You are quoted as saying BBRAXTON is not just a barbershop, it’s an “exceptional experience.” Can you tell HW readers what a client will find at BBraxton that you cannot get anywhere else?
Brenda Braxton and her mother Lillian Braxton
BB: First of all, you are going to get exceptional grooming but on top of that you are going to get exceptional customer service. When you come in, you get your coat taken. You can have a drink if you want. We try not to have you wait any longer than 15 minutes if you have an appointment. We take walk-ins as well. Our staff is gracious which is something you hardly get any more. And we are very skilled at what we do.
LH: What are some of the services that you will find at BBRAXTON?
BB: You can get all types of haircuts. We do scissor cuts, caesars, tapers, fades. We do hot towel shaves, manicures, pedicures, facial and massages. You can have a cocktail, as you wait, or coffee or juice, whatever you want. And soon, we are going to have a membership. You can have a 6-month membership or a one-year membership for basic haircut services.
LH: BBRAXTON’s was featured in an episode of the VH1 reality show “Love & Hip-Hop.” How did that come about?
BB: My publicist had an intern at one of the events that we did. Then she started working for VH-1 and they were looking for different spots in Harlem to shoot “Love & Hip-Hop”. She said [she] had the perfect place for [them] and she told them about us.
LH: What shows will BBRAXTON appear in next?
BB: [Laughs] No more, right now, but we are open to everything.
LH: Anything you’d like to add?
BB: Come over and support us. It’s so difficult being a black-owned business and woman-owned business.
LH: Tips for the ladies on getting the man in their life to BBRAXTON’s?Valentine’s Day is coming up…
BB: [Laughs] Get your gift cards (for that special man in your life). It’s the perfect time to get hands and feet done.
