HUFFINGTON POST, February 19, 2012 -- Saturday Night Live wasted no time tackling new New York Knicks sensation Jeremy Lin, as the very first skit made light of the racial Lin stereotypes in the media coverage with a bunch of jokes about Asians.
A panel on "New York Sports Now" couldn't get enough of Jeremy Lin puns before touching on Jason Whitlock's racist tweet and ESPN's offensive headline that was posted after the Knicks' loss to the Hornets. But when trying to explain that race has nothing to do with the Linsanity hype, the panel couldn't help but inappropriate jokes about Asians. It started with calling the New York Post's "Amasian" headline "hilarious" and included a fortune cookie joke along with saying Lin turned Kobe Bryant into kobe beef. Even when they were talking about their favorite Lin moments over the last two weeks, they couldn't avoid making racist jokes.
But when one of the analysts would make jokes about African American stereotypes, the host had to settle the rest down and apologize on behalf of the network.. by using a couple more Lin puns.
