Syria
American born reporter and war journalist Marie Colvin has been killed in Syria. Colvin was covering the uprise of Syrian forces by entering the a smugglers route through dangerous areas where resistance was more prevelant. Corresponding of the military targets and neighborhood opposition, Colvin and her accompliance French photographer, Remi Ochlik perished. Reporting on the Free Syrian Army Colvin noted that they were often heavily outnumbered and out-gunned. Colvin and her accompliance were killed in a make shift media center where they were staying in Homs. At least three other journalists including a free-lance photographer were wounded. Colvin had described in a earlier report before her death that she entered through a smuggler's route by climbing over walls in the dark and into muddy trenches. Colvin was an experienced journalist understanding pending dangerous missions of news coverage knew of life's threating and potential death in her reporting assignments. In addition she had covered wars across the Middle East and south Asia for 25 years for the Sunday Times. Colvin lost an eye in 2001 while reporting during an attack in Sri Lanka. Marie Colvin was 55 years old.
