HOMETOWN MEMPHIS LIL EXTRA!: HISTORY

Okay,
You are reading in
Hometown Memphis Lil Extra!
And there just may be in the
following stories you’ll be having
a fair reading..
It’s not a mystery, but it may
Take you into a lil extra bit of history…

It’s Fair and History!

LEAVE YOUR CITYJOB AFLOAT
AND GET A JOB ABOARD A
STEAMBOAT!
02.21.2012
Memphis, Tennessee

Memphians lined up to the Cook Convention Center in Downtown to apply for at least 300 plus jobs at a steamboat job fair. The Great American Steamboat Company job’s fair accepted applicants to fill positions to begin it’s tour/shows and operations in April 2012. Positions included Hotel and Hospitality, Housekeeping, along with other promising positions of crew hosts. Many applicants applied on-line before the job fair for those river boat careers. The job fair lasted only one day beginning but thousands showed up to apply from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

If you wanted to go to the job fair, and you’re in Memphis that time is over, and it’s fair history.. Don’t worry it’s okay you can listen to Proud Mary as you think about rolling on a river…and wonder over the history of river and steamboats..

OKAY!

Wouldn’t you know it!
It’s just what you’d think
a lil history read, but don’t you blink!
OK?

WLOK!
IT'S YOUR 35th BIRTHDAY!
02.17.2012
Memphis, TN

Okay..' Play some me old time gospel....

A local gospel radio station is 35 years of operation, and making history as one of the longest staying Black own stations in Memphis. 1340 WLOK has grounded it's claim under the direction and owner Art Gilliam. This gospel station has history and it's staying fair by giving Memphians and surrounding areas listeners the gospel music sound and its gospel talk shows as part of it's lingering community service. Gilliam purchased a once white-owned R&B radio station in 1977 making it the first Afro-American owned station in the Memphis Area. Many may have doubted it would remain operational over such a long period of time, however, in the time frame of 35 years Gilliam has shown that with ups and downs all is fair. The station has survived and continues to provide fine gospel music along with community supported merits as well. Making history, the station has become one of Tennessee's Historical Landmarks. The station marks another birthday and it's all familiar saying..."A family tradition." This radio family has proven it's truly a tradition to it thousands of worthy listeners.

35! That’s some history…

That's WLOK by me!

“Perhaps you’ve read this story before…that was then but now there’s MO!”

MO MONEYTAXES CLOSES
IT DOORS &
THERE’S SOME HISTORY
LIES IN STORE
Memphis, Tennessee
02.20.2012

The location of the MO Money Tax Services store on Elvis Presley Blvd. in Memphis has been evicted and their clients never got their tax refund checks. That’s bad news for filers who trusted in the company to keep their word. In addition to this closing there was also a history of filer’s tax-records including papers with names with social security and personal information dumped in the boxes in found in the trash. A spokesman from Mo Money said they lost their leases, but they did not throw away the boxes containing clients information, this he said was done by the owner’s or their cleaning services. Mo Money claimed to have called for a shredding company to take care of shredding all those past records. Still not living up to where’s the refund checks? Many filers were disappointed. A pending investigation by the IRS will be presumed to follow actions of criminal suit and disclose what exactly happened to monies disbursed.

“It’s been quite an upset as many filers with Mo’ Money as they showed up to pick up NO’ Money!” There were lies in store…

“MO has been made history now, and the fair is no More.”

It’s been a quick read as this History Fair is over!

I’ll see around somewhere up in here!

It’s time for Bubbles…)))0000000000000000000….oooo
