Speaker of the House of The Tennessee General Assembly returned only to announce he will be retiring. The 72-year legistlator, Jimmy Naifeh returned with his retirement news to let go after counting the 38 years of his service on the Hill in Nashville. Naifeh said that his mentor former Governor Ned McWherter always told him he would know when it's time to go. "I know that time has come for me to step aside for the next generations of leaders," quoted Naifeh from a local news story. Naifeh said he will not seek re-election in the fall ending a 18 tenure as the unchallenged "Tennessee Speaker of the House." Naifeh career has made him a most admirable speaker and one whom has helped made possible millions of dollars in grants toward West Tennessee. One special project he aided was in 2003 to make it possible for the Stax Museum to receive a needful 100,000 dollar grant saving the musuem from it's failing conditions. State Representative Lois DeBerry called Naifeh a collegue, a friend and a brother and has devoted many years of his life for a high-calling.
