“Here I come baby" I said. "Go lay down I’ll be right there.”
Deon wants the joy of being a husband. He wants to exercise his right to take my body whenever he wants to. It’s the last thing in the world I want to do right now. It wasn’t that long ago when I couldn’t resist the touch of my husband’s hands but those same hands have brought so much pain into my life.
In the bedroom, on top of my Egyptian cotton sheets I could see the smooth chocolate skin I used to crave, looking up at me with a smile as if nothing ever happen today. As if he never treated me so cold.
I just stared at him.
“Don’t act like that baby” he giggled. “You know I never mean to hit you. I just love you so much sometimes I get carried away. Come lay with me. Let me make love to you.”
“Deon I’m sore, just go back to sleep.” I snapped.
“Simone I said I was sorry now. You pissing me off with that tough talk. Come lay down with your man.” He hissed.
I could tell in his voice he was getting agitated. I couldn’t survive another fight. But I was willing to take the risk. Turning on my heels I headed back into my son’s bedroom. I could hear Deon gaining on me one step at a time.
The tug on my ponytail let me know he had caught up with me.
“Simone, we can do this the easy way or the hard way. What’s it gone be?” Deon whispered.
One day soon, it’s gone be the hard way and for the last time too, but for tonight, I choose the easy way. Following my husband’s lead back to our matrimonial bed; I swallowed my tears. Deon grabbed my face and began to remove my night gown revealing the purple bruises all over my core.
“You proud of yourself?” I asked looking him in his eyes. I couldn’t recognize the look on my husband’s face or the tears in his eyes.
He stopped and looked at his handy work from earlier.
My husband actually began to cry. I believe they are just tears of shame, the monster in him never regrets his actions, only the recoil.
