The Abyssinian Development Corporation (ADC), Manhattan’s Community School District 5 (CSD 5), and Morningside Area Alliance (MAA)……brought together some of New York City’s shining science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) students, community and corporate organizations, and industry professionals for the 5th Annual Super Saturday! STEM Expo.

“One of our designs was a kinetic road,” said Roman Khaimov from the Columbia Secondary School stated to NY1. “It absorbs kinetic energy that cars travel on. We want that energy to be transferred to the energy in the buildings.”

“What we wanted to do is make our own healthier soda,” said Jayden Coleman from the Thurgood Marshall Academy. “We did that by adding Vitamin C and Vitamin D to our soda to make it healthier.”

“Everything from chemistry to botany to robotics,” said Sheena Wright, the CEO of the Abyssinian Development Corporation. “We have three and four-year-olds exhibiting how flashlights are powered by lemon juice.”

The one day event featured STEM demonstrations, hands-on activities and exhibits geared towards youth and families from more than 30 premiere organizations such as Google, Sesame Workshop, Harlem Hospital Center, Harlem Health Promotion Center, New York Cares, Kumon, Barnard College, Cathedral of St. John Divine, Teachers College, Columbia University.

The event took place on Saturday, May 19th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m, at the Harlem Armory, 40 West 143rd Street at 5th Avenue.
