Alcorn’s Greenfield To Participate In The State Department’s Diversity And Foreign Policy Session (608 hits)

Dr. Derek Greenfield, director of Diversity and Equity Engagement at Alcorn State University, has been invited to participate in the U.S. Department of State’s first-ever strategy session on “Diversity, Inclusion and U.S. Foreign Policy”, as a result of his national reputation in the field. The session will convene 100 top diversity leaders from the public, private and nonprofit sectors on June 7 in the Marshall Center at the U.S. Department of State.

"I am excited to represent our great university,” stated Dr. Greenfield. “And to engage with other diversity leaders to foster greater awareness and develop strategies for enhancing global understanding."

Following opening remarks from Senator Ben Cardin (D/MD), Special Representative to Muslim Communities, Farah Pandith, and Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, director general of the Foreign Service, Dr. Ernest Wilson III, dean of the Annenberg School of Public Diplomacy, will offer the keynote address. Afternoon sessions will cover a wide range of critical issues, with particular attention paid to approaches for building global partnerships.

Participants will include U.S. government leaders from the White House, Congress, USAID, the Department of State, Peace Corps, the U.S. Marine Corps, and the U.S. Navy, and Chief Diversity Officers from leading U.S. corporations, educational institutions, and nonprofit and other organizations, including Merck, Citigroup, Wal-Mart, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, McDonald’s, Abercrombie & Fitch, GlaxoSmithKline, American Red Cross, United Way Worldwide, Harvard University, Cornell University, and many others. The Society for Human Resource Management and the International Society of Diversity and Inclusion Professionals are partners in this event.
